Trent Alexander-Arnold has played very little for Liverpool in pre-season, but that didn’t show against Ipswich Town.
The all-action right-back reached the final of Euro 2024 with England in the summer and missed large parts of Arne Slot’s first pre-season.
Under Jurgen Klopp, Alexander-Arnold came through the club’s academy as a fresh-faced teenager and became one of the best fullbacks in the world.
And now, Slot has got to see first-hand what the Liverpool star is all about after he played a key role in his side’s opening goal against Ipswich at Portman Road.
Diogo Jota was the one who opened the scoring with a simple finish, but most of the work was done by Mohamed Salah, but first, the man behind him.
Sitting in his own half, Alexander-Arnold threaded a stunning through ball for Salah to run onto and he was in behind Ipsiwch’s defence pretty much straightaway.
Ian Wright thinks that the pass from the 25-year-old was one ‘you aren’t going to see in many leagues around the world’, as he told Premier League Productions (17/08/24 at 8:10 pm).
There is talk as to whether Slot will change Alexander-Arnold’s position and play him in midfield.
But for now, he is showcasing his worth in his usual role and starting the season in a strong fashion.

“Look at this,” said Wright. “You aren’t probably going to see a pass like that in many leagues around the world, this pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Look at this pass here.
“He has taken three or four players out of the game with that pass. That is the quality they (Ipswich) are up against. When you do that, he isn’t going to miss from there, Jota. Fantastic football from Liverpool.”

Real Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold isn’t going away and it should worry Liverpool fans.
Trent’s contract expires next summer and the club haven’t done themselves any favours by allowing it to go this far.

After Martin Zubimendi rejected Liverpool, the fans have been told that players like Alexander-Arnold will want to leave because they will question the future of the team.
It’s understandable because Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also out of contract and they are three very important players.
If the worst-case scenario does happen, Liverpool have been told that Conor Bradley will be the one to replace Alexander-Arnold.
