Harry Kane isn’t the only ex-Tottenham player scoring goals in Europe.

Ange Postecoglou would have been gutted when Kane left Tottenham for Bayern Munich last summer, with the Spurs boss then looking for a replacement and a new star centre-forward.

Whilst Tottenham spent that summer, they didn’t bring in a number nine, with Son Heung-min and Richarlison largely used down the middle.

Tottenham would then pay a club-record fee for Dominic Solanke 12 months later – and he will be hoping to return to the XI in the north London derby against Arsenal after getting injured on debut.

But they already had a striker on their books who they could have used, but instead, they opted to loan out and then sell this summer.

There were high expectations of Troy Parrott when he was coming through as a teenager, but he only made four senior appearances without scoring a goal.

The Republic of Ireland international scored 17 goals on loan at Excelsior Rotterdam in Holland’s top tier last season.

Parrott was then snapped up for £7 million by AZ Alkmaar and he was waiting for his first goal for the club after four matches.

But then he got off the mark in the most incredible fashion on Saturday by downing a team managed by Premier League great, Robin van Persie.

The ex-Spurs man was grinning like a Cheshire Cat as he held the Man of the Match award after scoring an incredible four goals.

Alkmaar ran riot by netting nine on home soil against van Persie’s Heerenveen side, with seven of those goals coming in the second half.

Parrott scored his first goal after 23 minutes, before scoring three goals in eight minutes in the second half to score a memorable four.

Tottenham right to sell Troy Parrott

There was a lot of hope that Parrott would be a great understudy to Kane when he was at the club, but it just wasn’t meant to be.

The Irishman struggled in several loan spells in England’s lower leagues and Spurs were right to move him on.

But he is enjoying life in Holland, with AZ sitting second in the league with four wins from their opening five matches.
