» » » 'An absolute solid athlete': Theo Walcott impressed by £15m Tottenham star despite defeat to Arsenal

Tottenham should be used to this feeling now, even though they will absolutely hate it.

For the third season in a row, Arsenal turned up to their stadium and claimed a win, with the same old problems rearing its ugly head.

Guglielmo Vicario has come under fire for not being able to deal with corners, whilst Cristian Romero has made a poor start to the season.

There are several Tottenham players who simply aren’t performing and it should be concerning for manager Ange Postecoglou.

A lot has been made of Postecoglou’s style of play, it was a major talking point last season and that talk has been a hot topic again.

But sometimes, the players just need to look at themselves because only very few can hold up their heads high and say they are performing well.

Despite Tottenham losing to Arsenal, Theo Walcott was keen to give his flowers to one player on the enemy side and how he impressed on a difficult afternoon for the team.

Destiny Udogie has made an incredible start to his Tottenham career and Walcott felt that he kept Bukayo Saka ‘quiet’ for large parts of the north London derby.

The former Premier League speedster described Udogie as ‘an absolute solid athlete throughout the whole game’, as he told Match of the Day 2.

“Udogie, who I felt was an absolute solid athlete throughout the whole game,” said Walcott. “He actually kept Saka quiet for most of the game.

“But the way Tottenham started, particularly in derby games, is where you need to capitalise on that start. They didn’t manage to do it in the end and Arsenal really did, those first 20 minutes which is always a difficult part of the game, they got through it.”

Destiny Udogie is a top purchase from Tottenham

Spurs paid Udinese £15 million in 2022 for then-teenager Udogie, with a lot of hope and expectations around his arrival.

Initially, he was loaned back to the Italian side, before he played his first full season in the Premier League during Postecoglou’s debut campaign.

Udogie was one of the stories of the season for Spurs and one of their most consistent players at left-back.

It needs to be noted that Udogie was booked in the first half, yet he didn’t allow that to affect him – just like at the Emirates last season – and faired very well up against Saka, even if the rest of his teammates let him down.
