David Raya is growing and growing in Arsenal colours after his latest performance against Manchester City on Sunday at the Etihad.
Arsenal and Manchester City played out an enthralling 2-2 draw, with the London club down to ten men for the entirety of the second half and then proceeding to concede a 98th-minute equaliser.
John Stones was the man to break Arsenal’s hearts and Raya’s heroics towards the end weren’t rewarded after Jack Grealish’s quick-thinking from a corner.
This time last season, Aaron Ramsdale was losing his number-one spot and Raya was coming into the XI to the surprise of many.
The argument was that Ramsdale didn’t need replacing and that money, plus effort, should have been used elsewhere.
But fast forward to the present and Ramsdale is now at Southampton, with the Spaniard thriving as the main guy in between the sticks for Mikel Arteta.
Chris Sutton was pretty honest to admit that he ‘jumped on the bandwagon’ by thinking Ramsdale should have stayed as number one and how he was hard done by.
But now, the former striker thinks Raya has been ‘incredible’, judging by his latest performance in Arsenal colours, as he told BBC 606.
It’s been a pretty good week for the Arsenal man because he was the reason why they picked up a point against Atalanta in the Champions League.

“What about your goalkeeper because I was one who jumped on the bandwagon with Ramsdale thinking he was hard done by,” said Sutton.
“But blimey, he (Raya) was incredible (against Manchester City).”
Mikel Arteta’s big calls
This has been the norm for Arteta ever since he took the job in 2019, and most of the time, he is always being questioned before being proven right.
From keeping Granit Xhaka at the club, before he transformed into a key player for Arsenal, and now he is winning the big trophies at Bayer Leverkusen.
