Why Guenther Steiner ‘could easily’ see Max Verstappen join Mercedes next season

Max Verstappen has kept himself in the race to land a fifth drivers’ championship this season despite a less-than-impressive season for Red Bull.

If both McLaren drivers were to crash out at the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend, Verstappen would draw level with Oscar Piastri despite Red Bull no longer being the dominant force in F1.

It’s not entirely unthinkable; he made his Red Bull debut at the same circuit nine years ago, taking a surprise win after Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg crashed out.

The Dutchman sits third in the standings behind Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, with Red Bull banking on technical upgrades to boost their pace heading into the summer.

A shift in front-wing flexing rules could shake up the running order this weekend. Red Bull’s early optimism about the change has faded, but any further drop in performance could leave Verstappen weighing his options for next year.

Ralf Schumacher has already flagged potential issues with Red Bull’s 2026 engine project, and Guenther Steiner believes there’s already one seat that could open up for the two-time champion if he decides to look elsewhere.

Guenther Steiner ‘could easily’ see Max Verstappen replace Kimi Antonelli

Steiner was speaking about Andrea Kimi Antonelli on The Red Flags Podcast and his recent struggles over the past two races.

He said: “He’s got a lot of rope, Toto will protect him if he’s doing the right thing, but if it doesn’t work out, at some stage, there will be repercussions.

“He will say, ‘Hey, this is not good enough,’ and I think that’s coming in the second half of the season.

“He’s a rookie, so, you need to give this guy a little bit of freedom to make mistakes because they will, but if the second half of the season he continues to do this…”

Steiner went on to say that the rookie excuse for Antonelli ends next season before being asked if there’s a world where the Italian could be replaced by Verstappen if he doesn’t perform in 2026.

He continued: “Could easily be and then Mercedes… as I always say, a driver is part of the team, Mercedes is not here to train drivers, Mercedes is here to win.

“They need to have the best guy in the car that they can have, and if it’s not Kimi, for sure, he likes him, he loves him, he’s a good kid and I wouldn’t write him off yet just to make that clear.

“I think he can show us a lot of things. But if that doesn’t happen, I think he’s just treated like everybody else at the end of the year.

“If it does happen that he doesn’t make proper progress, it could be that he has to look for another job, he’s just one part of the team.”

Kimi Antonelli is enjoying a mixed start to life as a Formula 1 driver with Mercedes

Antonelli should have been the most under-pressure rookie at the start of 2025, given he was immediately thrust into a team hoping to win races this season.

George Russell has been fantastic this year, and while his chances of challenging for a very unlikely championship are quickly fading, he’ll be relatively pleased to have secured four podium finishes this season.

His rookie teammate, however, has had plenty of ups and downs, with his recovery drive in Australia and pole position for the Sprint race in Miami being his standout moments.

Antonelli has already thrilled Mercedes after overtaking Verstappen in China, but a retirement at his first home race at Imola and then a costly mistake in qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix have brought him back down to earth.

Toto Wolff has spent years nurturing the 18-year-old and he’s unlikely to suddenly abandon him now.

However, Antonelli and Russell are in the final years of their contracts and seeing as Mercedes have held an interest in Verstappen for a long time, it’s not a switch that’s completely outside the realms of possibility.

Forget Florian Wirtz, Man City have already decided who their Kevin De Bruyne replacement will be - journalist

It looked as if Manchester City were set on Florian Wirtz as Kevin De Bruyne’s replacement, but the German star looks most likely to make the switch to Liverpool instead.

Despite City’s long-standing interest in Wirtz, the finances involved have made the former Premier League champions quickly turn their attention elsewhere and they’ve seemingly found their replacement for De Bruyne.

After a decade at The Citizens, the Belgian is finally moving on – with Napoli looking likely to sign De Bruyne.

But if there’s one thing for sure, it’s that he leaves behind a tremendous legacy.

108 goals and a mouth-watering 177 assists in 422 appearances solidify De Bruyne as a City legend, so to say it’s big boots to fill would be an injustice. That said, City have seemingly found their man in an attempt to do just that.

Rayan Cherki eyed as Kevin De Bruyne replacement

At just 21, Rayan Cherki has incredible potential and Pep Guardiola looks like he wants to tap into that.

According to Fabrizio Romano, City have made contact with Cherki to start talks, with the intention of him playing in the ’10’ role.

Since his breakthrough into the Lyon team at just 16, there have been lots of whispers about the potential of Cherki, but the 24/25 campaign is where the youngster came into his own and really stamped his name on the big stage.

In Lyon’s Europa League knockout tie against Manchester United, Cherki scored in both legs, dazzling throughout.

But the French midfielder will have to make the tough step up in the Champions League if he’s to nail down the number 10 position and continue De Bruyne’s legacy at City.

How Rayan Cherki compares to Kevin De Bruyne

If Manchester City’s past transfer business is anything to go by, then they seem to have a knack for getting the right player in.

They turned down deals for Harry Maguire, Fred and Harry Kane because of cost-related issues, instead signing Ruben Dias, Rodri and Erling Haaland. But will Cherki be another case of City striking gold?

Player: League matches played (this season) Goals Assists Big chances created Expected goals Expected assists
Kevin De Bruyne 28 4 7 15 5.07 6.74
Rayan Cherki 30 8 11 22 5.01 11.73

If stats are anything to go by, then Cherki could fit in well in England.

He’s got the essential playmaking abilities of a 10, while also being a threat in front of goal. Both are useful qualities which would make him a dangerous asset for Guardiola’s men.

Al Nassr break silence on Cristiano Ronaldo’s future with target set on a Premier League star

Al Nassr director Fernando Hierro has addressed Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract renewal after a cryptic social media message, and the club has set its sights on a Premier League target.

Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United in 2021, but his second stint at the Premier League club ended abruptly due to a high-profile falling out with newly appointed manager Erik ten Hag.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner signed for Al Nassr in 2023 and helped cement the Saudi Pro League’s reputation as a hub for end-of-career talent, with many other greats of the game joining him.

The 39-year-old has made waves in Saudi Arabia over the past three seasons, claiming a record 99 goals. But with Al Nassr finishing third and the Portuguese legend having no major silverware to show for his time at the club, Ronaldo’s future in Saudi is in doubt.

Ronaldo hints at departure in a cryptic X post

Ronaldo created fresh speculation around his future next season in a message posted to X claiming the ‘chapter is over’.

The post came shortly after the club’s season ended without a major trophy, despite Ronaldo’s standout individual performances.

Al Nassr director Fernando Hierro addressed Ronaldo’s situation in a statement today, saying: “We are still in negotiations with Cristiano,” Hierro said. “Hopefully we can find a solution on a renewal.

The Portuguese striker is undoubtedly approaching the end of his career, having played professionally for more than two decades.

While no official decision has been confirmed, Ronaldo’s post, and Al Nassr’s new targets, suggest that a crossroads may be approaching for one of football’s most iconic figures.

Al Nassr set their sights on Liverpool star Luis Diaz

According to talkSPORT, Al Nassr have reportedly identified Liverpool winger Luis Díaz as a summer transfer target. The Colombian international has been targeted to fill the gap left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s anticipated departure.

Díaz, 28, enjoyed a standout season with Liverpool, contributing 13 goals and five assists as the Reds secured their 20th Premier League title. His performances have also attracted interest from several clubs, including Barcelona and Atlético Madrid.

Liverpool are aware of Al Nassr’s interest and are reportedly open to discussions, especially as Díaz’s contract is set to expire in 2027.

What Antony and Jadon Sancho were spotted doing after the Europa Conference League final whistle

Manchester United loanees Antony and Jadon Sancho battled against each other for glory. However, what the pair were caught doing at full-time may warm United fans’ hearts.

Chelsea’s 4-1 victory against Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final has capped off a successful first season in charge for Enzo Maresca.

The Blues got off to a flying start in the Premier League before hitting a slump in the second half of the campaign as Champions League qualification doubts started to creep in.

It went right down to the wire for the London club, but a final-day win against Nottingham Forest secured their spot back in the greatest competition in club football.

With Chelsea’s league campaign finished, all eyes were set on their final against Real Betis and Manchester United loanee Antony, who was in the form of his life.

Jadon Sancho came off the bench to score a late third goal for Chelsea, ending Antony and Betis’ dreams of a first European trophy.

The pair have both endured a pretty rough time at Man United and the former teammates embraced each other after the final whistle.

Speaking to TNT Sports Brazil, an emotional Antony opened up on his time at United.

He said: “Those days were incredibly hard for me, those days at home I didn’t have it in me to play with my son.

“There were days I wouldn’t eat, just lying in my room, it was a really dark time for me.”

Both left the club on loan deals this season in an attempt to regain form, with Sancho joining boyhood club Chelsea in the summer and Antony heading for Spain back in January.

The moves have proven to be a success for all parties involved, and with the summer transfer window quickly approaching, both players and clubs will have big decisions to make.

What’s next for Sancho and Antony?

Despite scoring the penultimate goal that helped Chelsea clinch silverware, there have already been doubts around Sancho joining Chelsea permanently.

Chelsea have a £25m obligation to buy Sancho, but can still choose not to sign him by paying United a further £5m.

If the Blues were to opt against signing the former Manchester City academy star, the Red Devils will then have a big decision to make on the winger.

However, Antony’s move to Betis doesn’t include any option to buy the Brazilian, and his sizzling form will surely be attracting clubs from all over Europe.

With United braced to sell this summer, it’s looking likely that both Sancho and Antony will this time permanently seek pastures new.

Report: Tottenham could sign ex-Man City star with proven Champions League pedigree

If there’s living proof that one game can change your season – it’s Tottenham Hotspur.

A mild, overcast day in Bilbao, which to many, would be forgettable, is the single most important day in the club’s recent history.

That victory over Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final has changed everything for the Lilywhites and potentially kept Ange Postecoglou in a job.

Finishing in a dire 17th position in the Premier League would’ve made it hard to attract Europe’s top talent but that win catapults them into the Champions League and makes this so much easier.

Tottenham Hotspur FC v Brighton & Hove Albion FC - Premier League
Photo by Catherine Ivill – AMA/Getty Images

Playing in Europe’s finest competition has an allure to pull strings Daniel Levy didn’t know he had, while also offering the club in excess of £100m, depending on their performance in the competition.

So it’s an incredibly important summer for those upstairs in suits to ensure Spurs get the right cavalry to attack next season.

It’s critical the north London club bring in Champions League-level players so they can compete at the highest level overseas and in domestic competitions.

Leroy Sane could be the Champions League-level signing Tottenham need

One of the biggest issues English clubs face when signing players is ensuring they’re good enough for the ferocity and physicality of the Premier League.

Players can star abroad but when they cross waters into the English Channel, they struggle.

The signing of Leroy Sane for Spurs could be the perfect balance between Champions League quality and a Premier League-proven player.

Manchester City v AFC Bournemouth - Premier League

This comes after his incredibly successful four years for Manchester City, scoring 39 goals and assisting 44 in 135 appearances.

Sky Sports reported that the German international, whose contract at Bayern Munich is set to expire next month, had been offered to Tottenham.

With the nature of Sane being a free agent, his wage demands are likely to be extensive, which could be a red flag to The Lilywhite businessmen who may want to keep the bill down.

But at just 29, the winger could still have several years at the top level, which might make this swoop, incredibly appealing for Spurs.

What could Sane bring to Tottenham?

To justify his wages, Sane would need to bring consistency at the highest level, pushing Brennan Johnson out of the team.

Stats for club: Matches played Goals Assists Goal contribution %
Leroy Sane 220 61 55 52.73%
Brennan Johnson 85 23 18 48.2%

While the goal contribution percentage is close, Sane has played 135 more games of which he appeared 51 times in the Champions League for the Bavarian side.

In Europe, the German scored 16 goals and assisted 11 times.

So for Tottenham, he could be the essential cog in the machine to help push the north London side further in the competition.

Fabrizio Romano says that a ‘deal could be done soon’ which will leave Manchester United fans furious

Ever-reliable transfer guru Fabrizio Romano suggests that Real Madrid are mightily close to a transfer that will surely upset Manchester United’s fanbase.

The Red Devils are currently facing serious financial problems, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly acknowledging the issues, stating that the club “would have run out of cash by the end of 2025.”

With every player at Manchester United potentially up for sale, fresh talent needs to be brought in to rebuild a strong squad capable of European qualification.

But could they have held on to a talent that now looks destined for greatness?

Real Madrid in talks with Benfica to sign Álvaro Carreras

Álvaro Fernández has made 42 appearances for Benfica across all competitions this season, and if a transfer is not agreed, he will likely play in this summer’s Club World Cup.

Real Madrid, according to Fabrizio Romano, have reportedly begun talks with Benfica and have agreed a wage with Álvaro Fernández.

The Spanish side are in need of a full-back due to injuries and potential departures from the club. Dani Carvajal, while still a strong player, is 33, and injuries with longer recovery times are slowing the Spanish international down.

Having agreed terms with Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer, Real Madrid are strengthening their defensive back line, with the Liverpool talent set to play at right-back.

Fernández would fit into the chemistry of the team as a left-back alongside Trent in a younger and more dynamic back line.

Manchester United to receive a potential windfall from Carreras’ sell-on clause to soften blow

Manchester United could still benefit from Benfica’s sale, as there was a sell-on clause included when making Carreras’ Benfica move permanent. The Spanish defender has a £42m release clause at the club.

If that figure is met, then Manchester United will likely receive around 10% of the release clause, potentially walking away with £4.2m.

Supporters will certainly feel hard done by, knowing another great player was let go.

This windfall is a bonus at a time when the club is under increasing financial pressure, especially after missing out on European qualification. But fans will be frustrated with yet another young and talented player slipping through the cracks, now linked with European giants Real Madrid.

Premier League club eyeing Liverpool star as Arne Slot plans for more summer exits

Liverpool are preparing for the sale of Caoimhin Kelleher, as Arne Slot’s title-winning side faces a summer of change with other impending departures.

A Premier League club has approached Liverpool over the transfer of Kelleher, who has proven his capability when called upon over the last six seasons at Anfield.

Kelleher has featured 20 times for The Reds this campaign, with stand-out performances coming in the Champions League against the likes of Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, and RB Leipzig, all of whom he kept a clean sheet in.

Kelleher was keen to leave Liverpool during last summer’s transfer window. Slot was able to keep the trusty back-up goalkeeper, with the Irishman playing a pivotal role in Liverpool’s successful season.

However, with Kelleher’s growing ambition to be a first-choice goalkeeper, it’s looking increasingly likely that his Liverpool career is coming to an end.

Brentford are eyeing up Kelleher

According to Sky Sports, Brentford are set to lose star goalkeeper Mark Flekken to Bayer Leverkusen and are turning their attention to Kelleher to fill his place.

The move would see the shot-stopper finally have his chance to establish himself as a number one, with Brentford potentially being the perfect fit.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has previously received praise from former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who is also a fan of Frank’s potential signing, as he relied on the goalkeeper numerous times.

Teammate Virgil Van Dijk has lauded Kelleher in the past, and his departure would mean a bittersweet goodbye with all the fond memories he has helped create for Liverpool.

What does this mean for Liverpool?

Giorgi Mamardashvili
Photo by DAX Images/NurPhoto via Getty Images

Liverpool are scheduled to have a busy transfer window this summer, as the confirmed departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold and the potential departure of assistant John Heitinga mean Arne Slot and Liverpool will need to find replacements soon.

Liverpool already seem to have a Kelleher replacement waiting in the wings, with Giorgi Mamardashvili arriving at Anfield this summer.

They signed the keeper from the Spanish outfit last summer but loaned him back until the end of this season, and he will soon be linking up with his new Liverpool teammates in pre-season.

Mamardashvili is expected to eventually replace Alisson, who has established himself as one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world, with Liverpool looking like they will still be in safe hands come the start of next season.

‘For Mr Levy’… Jose Mourinho says what Spurs chairman will love about Europa League win

Former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has spoken on the club’s Europa League triumph, cheekily pointing to the one thing that chairman Daniel Levy will appreciate the most

Mourinho was the Tottenham Hotspur boss from 2019 until 2021, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy sacking the Portuguese man days before a Carabao Cup final.

Since his departure, Mourinho went on to guide Roma to the final of the inaugural UEFA Conference League where he added to his trophy cabinet.

The following season, he managed to get the Italian giants to the Europa League final, where his side narrowly missed out on more glory through a penalty shootout loss to Sevilla.

He is currently the manager of Fenerbahce in Turkey and finished second in the league this season.

What did Jose Mourinho say about Levy?

In an interview with Sky Sports News, Mourinho acknowledged the importance of Champions League qualification for Spurs, but alluded to the money on offer being “the best news” for Levy.

He said: “The impact is obvious, for the player Champions League, and of course for Mr. Levy, the millions the Champions League gives, for him is the best news.”

Mourinho, who has been ranked in the top 10 Premier League managers of all time, left on pretty sour terms with Tottenham.

His fallout with Levy was well documented, and despite his admiration for Spurs as a whole, it’s no surprise to see the serial-winner throwing a cheeky jibe towards his former employer.

Mourinho’s delight for Spurs players and fans

Mourinho still clearly feels strongly for his former side as he expressed his delight at Spurs ending their 17-year wait for a trophy.

He said: “For the fans, for the players, for Ange it’s a title, yes the game was not amazing, but they made history for Tottenham because Tottenham didn’t have a trophy for so many years.

“When I saw Sonny (Son Heung-min) crying with the cup, and the fans it’s of course a special feeling.”

Mourinho is the only manager to win all three European tournaments and understands the momentum his former side can harness from winning the Europa League.

Key Liverpool figure expected to depart in coming days with the club preparing for change

Liverpool have a summer of celebration ahead after being crowned Premier League champions; however one big change is nearing that may disrupt their momentum.

In his first season at the wheel, Arne Slot has steered Liverpool back to the pinnacle of English football, winning a 20th league title for the Reds.

Next season will be a new test for Slot and his side, with Trent Alexander-Arnold departing for Real Madrid and other changes reportedly taking place at Anfield.

Player transfers will dominate the headlines, but one change off the field could prove costly for the champions next season.

Arne Slot’s assistant set to leave

Liverpool’s assistant coach John Heitinga is reportedly set to leave the club, as he has been permitted to speak to Ajax about their vacant head coach role.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have already begun searching for a replacement, which suggests Slot’s assistant is unlikely to be in the Liverpool dugout at the start of next season.

https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1927481349608194511

Heitinga would be returning to Amsterdam after he managed the Dutch giants for six months during the 22/23 season.

In the 23/24 season, he was a part of David Moyes’ backroom staff at West Ham, before joining Liverpool alongside Slot last summer, experiencing the most successful period of his early coaching career.

What are the repercussions for Liverpool?

Liverpool have had a dominant first season with Slot and his backroom staff, who inherited most of the players from Jurgen Klopp.

Individuals have flourished under Slot and his staff this campaign, with Mohammed Salah breaking records and Ryan Gravenberch stealing headlines, but this change may disrupt what the Reds are building.

With Liverpool searching for a replacement, they must choose wisely, as the importance of having a solid backroom staff is often overlooked.

Pep Guardiola Manchester City head coach
Photo by Robbie Jay Barratt – AMA/Getty Images

Pep Guardiola has been a victim of his backroom staff leaving in the past, with Mikel Arteta and Enzo Maresca both leaving Manchester City to become head coaches elsewhere.

Guardiola endured his first trophyless season with Man City this campaign, and has suffered plenty of criticism over tactics and team selection.

Liverpool will be losing a piece to the puzzle should Heitinga leave, and will want to find that missing piece swiftly and efficiently to continue their success and dominate once more.

Ruben Amorim claims Man United have a youngster who 'looks like a first-team player' every time he plays

After entering the lion’s den seven months ago, Ruben Amorim has a task as big as any in football on his hands – bringing Manchester United back.

A club that has fallen so far, who’ve become so lost that they’re almost unrecognisable to the team that used to send shivers down the spines of any that dared enter Old Trafford.

It’s been 12 years since United last won the Premier League and 17 years since the Champions League, but despite the influx of different managerial and player changes, no one has come close to lifting those illustrious trophies again.

Amorim had a chance to turn the corner and start a fresh chapter at United in the Europa League final against Tottenham, but the soulless defeat to Spurs simply epitomised the bleak situation the club are in.

Manchester United FC v West Ham United FC - Premier League

But if history is anything to go by, there’s always one thing that keeps United going – youth.

From Duncan Edwards to Kobbie Mainoo, the club’s very foundations are built upon the promotion of young talent.

In Amorim’s United, this is no different, with players like Harry Amass and Chido Obi getting opportunities under the Portuguese manager.

But an 18-year-old defender is really capturing his attention.

Ruben Amorim praises Ayden Heaven impact

In a press conference before United’s first pre-season tour game in Malaysia, Amorim was very complimentary about Ayden Heaven.

“But, sometimes, you have surprises with young players. Like with Ayden, every time he played, he looks like a first-team player,” Amorim said.

Manchester United FC v Aston Villa FC - Premier League
Photo by Ash Donelon/Manchester United via Getty Images

Heaven joined the club in January from rivals Arsenal in a big coup for the Red Devils.

Since joining, he’s made six first-team appearances, including four in the league.

The young defender has impressed instantly, with Wayne Rooney being a particular admirer.

@bbcsport Wayne Rooney says Ayden Heaven is “a real coup” for Manchester United 👏 #ManUtd #MOTD2 #MUFC #BBCFootball #AydenHeaven #WayneRooney ♬ original sound – BBC Sport

With the departure of centre-halves Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof already confirmed, there will be an open slot for Heaven to nail down a first-team spot.

Heaven could be a Premier League starter next season

After missing out on the Champions League, any hope of United spending a huge treasure chest to revamp the squad is unlikely.

The budget will be tight, and sales are essential. With United in talks to sign Roy Keane favourite Matheus Cunha, there won’t be many funds left for new defenders.

This lack of defensive reinforcement could provide Heaven with the opportunity to stamp his authority on the side and become a first-team regular, something which Leny Yoro was able to do after his arrival from Lille last summer.

A big year awaits the young starlet.

What Kevin De Bruyne moving closer to a Napoli deal means for Manchester City

The Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne announced his end-of-the-season departure back in April with a heartfelt social media video.

Since his announcement, Kevin De Bruyne has spoken little about his next move but has previously hinted at wanting to stay in the North West. However, a move to Napoli is looking increasingly likely.

This season, De Bruyne has been significantly impacted by injuries, making only 20 Premier League appearances and seven-goal involvements.

Manchester City v FC Internazionale Milano - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1

In the 23/24 season, De Bruyne picked up a hamstring injury against Burnley and missed a large portion of games.

In this time, Manchester City‘s goal average dropped from 3.1 to 2.5, and their win rate decreased by 15%. The Manchester side will certainly suffer from his departure if they cannot secure key transfers this summer.

Manchester City’s shortlist to reinvent the midfield

Manchester City have struggled since their treble win in 2023. Pep Guardiola admitted that he was unsure if his side will be in a title challenge next season.

Amid competition for Florian Wirtz from Liverpool and Bayern Munich, Manchester City have set their sights on Cherki.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a phenomenal season at Lyon and would make sense in the attacking midfield position at Manchester City. The playmaker is likely to cost the club around £20 million, which is significantly lower than a potential Wirtz signing.

Cherki was the third-highest goalscorer for Lyon this season, claiming eight goals and assisting 11.

Kenan Yildiz, 19, has been on Manchester City’s radar for a few months and is expected to make a move from Juventus this summer. The young winger shows promise, scoring four goals and providing two assists this season in Serie A.

When previously asked in a press conference if he thought Phil Foden could step up to De Bruyne’s role, Guardiola told the reporters that City just didn’t have the specific skills De Bruyne provides.

Where will De Bruyne fit in the Napoli squad?

If De Bruyne joins the Italian side this summer, next season he will be joining fellow Belgian international and former Chelsea teammate Lukaku.

De Bruyne is best suited to a right-sided midfield attack and paired with Lukaku’s strength and finishing ability, could make a strong attacking partnership.

He will potentially be joining the likes of Scottish midfielder, and former Manchester United rival, Scott McTominay who secured Napoli’s Serie A title.

There is a lot of promise in this transfer if Napoli and De Bruyne’s team come to a transfer agreement.

Five clubs Marcus Rashford could join this summer as Man United exit is looking likely - opinion

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim claims ‘the good days’ are coming, but Marcus Rashford seems increasingly likely not to be a part of those days as his price tag is revealed.

Marcus Rashford was loaned to Aston Villa for the second half of the season, where he regained form and looked like the Rashford of old, racking up nine goals and assists in 17 games for The Villains.

Unsurprisingly, Aston Villa were being touted with a summer move for Rashford on a permanent basis, but with Villa failing to qualify for the Champions League, it means the deal is not looking likely.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Rashford is available and on the market for £40m.

Ruben Amorim aims for success with Manchester United next season, and in his post-match speech after The Red Devils’ final Premier League game this season, he said: “The good days are coming”, with new players expected to join the club and others expected to leave.

So, with Rashford seemingly on his way out of his boyhood club, let’s take a look at some clubs who could be in with a realistic chance of signing him this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur

With Tottenham Hotspur set for Champions League football after their UEFA Europa League triumph, UCL nights in North London could be an enticing prospect for Rashford.

Ange Postecoglou’s attacking philosophy could suit Rashford’s play style, and he would be a viable option across the front three for a reasonable price.

Former Tottenham star Jamie O’Hara said he would “love to see” Rashford at Tottenham previously, and would’ve paid “£80m” for him only a couple of months ago.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United are currently one of the most attractive teams to join in world football right now, with Eddie Howe’s side back in the Champions League, and finally breaking the club’s trophy curse by winning the Carabao Cup.

Howe is renowned for improving attackers, with the likes of Alexander Isak, Jacob Murphy, and Harvey Barnes all having fantastic seasons, and you’d expect he would get the most out of Rashford too.

A move would be a great deal for both parties, as Rashford would certainly add to The Magpies’ developing squad, potentially spurring them on for more silverware.

Paris Saint-Germain

PSG are on the cusp of having their most successful year in their club’s history, having already completed the French triple, they find themselves in the Champions League Final.

PSG were interested in Rashford last summer, and may reignite their interest this summer with a cheaper price tag available for the Englishman.

A move abroad could be exactly what Rashford needs to reach the heights he can achieve, and all things considered, PSG would be a perfect move.

Barcelona

Barcelona are back to ruling Spanish football, winning La Liga after coming through financial worries over the past years.

The Catalonian giants are looking to dominate in Spain and Europe once more, and could look to Rashford as a number nine successor for the evergreen Robert Lewandowski.

There were heavy reports in 2023 of Barcelona’s interest in Rashford, but a deal couldn’t materialise due to Manchester United’s asking price.

Now would be the perfect time for Barcelona to go and get their man they’ve sought after for so long.

Napoli

Serie A winners Napoli could go after another former Manchester United man after the success former Red Devils players Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay have brought them.

Napoli bought McTominay last summer, who went on to win the Serie A MVP award, and with further financial boost from their success this season, we could potentially see the Italian side go in for Rashford this summer.

Rashford wouldn’t be the first Englishman to make the switch to Italy, as players like Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori took the leap and reaped the rewards.

With the World Cup 2026 approaching, Rashford will be seeking a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s side, and his next move could be a decisive one.

Romano: David de Gea earns interest from Champions League giant after impressing away from Man Utd

When David de Gea was forced out of Old Trafford in July 2023, many believed his career at the top level of football was over.

Fast-forward two years, and the Spaniard’s name is back on the lips of Europe’s top clubs.

In his 12-year stint at Manchester United, De Gea rose up from a fragile youngster to one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

But towards the end of his reign as Man United’s number one, the unwavering support he once had amongst the Red Devils fanbase was severely depleted.

The departure of the Premier League great represented the ideological shift in football towards a ball-playing goalkeeper ahead of a shot-stopper, which De Gea was so renowned for.

But despite this, after a year out of football, Italian side Fiorentina took a punt on the then 33-year-old.

In just a matter of months, the Spaniard has re-lit the spark in his career, producing some of his old magic in La Viola purple.

Such rich form has helped guide Fiorentina to sixth in Serie A, just missing out on a spot in the UEFA Conference League final after a 4-3 aggregate defeat to Antony’s Real Betis side.

So, after such a good first year in Italy, it’s no surprise that the spotlight is back on the veteran goalkeeper, with one Champions League giant taking particular notice.

AS Monaco interested in David de Gea

According to Fabrizio Romano, French side AS Monaco have the former United goalkeeper on their shortlist.

Monaco finished third in Ligue 1, securing a spot in next season’s illustrious UEFA Champions League but their campaign wasn’t as successful as hoped, dropping one place in the league and facing an early bath in Europe after a knock-out defeat to Benfica.

In the midst of this was a goalkeeping crisis which saw neither Radoslaw Majecki nor Philipp
Köhn able to nail down the number one spot. Majecki made 15 Ligue 1 appearances, keeping just three clean sheets, while Köhn mustered up 19 appearances and eight clean sheets.

With neither able to convince between the sticks, Monaco have looked west to Italy and De Gea.

De Gea could thrive in Ligue 1

Monaco is a country known for their fancy restaurants and cars, but a different type of Rolls-Royce could arrive. De Gea, while not the perfect ball-playing goalkeeper, is still undoubtedly one of the best shot-stoppers in the world.

His ludicrous ability to make impossible saves could make a huge difference in an unsettled Monaco backline.

This consistency might push manager Adi Hütter and his Monaco side to make a move for the Spanish goalkeeper.

‘So good’ … £100m player Chelsea let go says his idol is actually Blues legend Eden Hazard

Chelsea have a busy summer transfer window ahead of them, and with the Champions League looming they may wish they had kept one player on their books.

Chelsea managed to finish their season on a high, with Enzo Maresca guiding his side back into the Champions League in his first season in charge.

The Blues could finish the season by bringing silverware back to West London as they face Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League Final on the 28th May.

Chelsea are set for a huge cash injection as they reached the final of the competition, and a win could set them up for a successful campaign next season.

As expected, Chelsea will be in the shop window once more this summer, but there is one player that lit up the Premier League who they may be wishing they kept at the club.

Southampton star Tyler Dibling joined Chelsea’s youth academy in July 2022, but after failing to settle, chose to rejoin the Saints in September that year, making his professional debut the following year.

Dibling has been a shining light in Southampton’s dismal season, with the 19-year-old attracting interest from Manchester City and Tottenham.

Although no official bids have been launched yet, Southampton have set Dibling’s price tag at £100m to gain healthy compensation should they lose their prized possession.

Chelsea and their fans may be shaking their heads at Dibling’s performances and praises, with Premier League legend Rio Ferdinand calling him ‘outstanding’ amongst other admirers of the starlet.

‘So good’, Dibling calls Chelsea legend Eden Hazard his idol

Dibling revealed that when he was a Chelsea mascot, watching Chelsea great Eden Hazard inspired him to become a professional footballer.

He said: “Just the way he played was so fun, so good to watch.

“I watched him so many times with my dad at Stamford Bridge, and he was my favourite player.”

With Dibling’s impressive dribbling ability at the heart of his eye-catching performances, Chelsea fans will be thinking what could have been, as they were so close to having another player with a resemblance to Hazard.
