Jamie Redknapp says Tottenham Hotspur are still in the ‘box seat’ to finish in the Premier League’s top-four, ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool, despite Antonio Conte’s rant.

The former Tottenham midfielder thinks Graham Potter’s Chelsea are ‘far off it’ to secure a top-four finish and you just don’t know what Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are going to do, from one week to the next, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (18/03/23).

It was a pretty dramatic weekend of Premier League action before the international break, starting with Newcastle United keeping their Champions League hopes alive by beating Nottingham Forest in stoppage time on Friday night, and then the following day, Antonio Conte, losing his head in his press conferences.

Tottenham recorded a 3-3 draw against bottom-of-the-table Southampton, despite holding a 3-1 lead and it resulted in Conte going in on near-on everyone at the club – Michael Owen slammed the Spurs manager for his comments.

This could prove to be a season-defining week for the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, from late goals in the fight for relegation to Arsenal opening up an eight-point lead at the top of the table.

There’s no doubt that Conte, and his rant, will be the main talking point, with Redknapp still thinking they are in the driving seat for fourth, even though Tottenham’s man in the dugout can head for the exit door anytime soon.

“Tottenham are still in the box seat for the top four,” said Redknapp. “So far off it (Chelsea). Liverpool, you can’t really get a gauge on how they going to do.”

TOTTENHAM IMPLODING?

It’s going to be interesting to see how those in the Tottenham boardroom react to Conte’s comments and whether they boot him out of the door.

Whatever they decide, it’s going to have a big impact on the race for the top four because there is now extra limelight and pressure on Spurs, whether you agree or disagree with Conte’s comments.

But the big issue for the north London outfit is that fifth-placed Newcastle United are two points behind them, with two games in hand, and Liverpool are six points behind, with two games in hand also.

What about Brighton? They have three games in hand and they are seven points behind, whilst tenth-placed Chelsea are 11 points behind and are probably worrying about whether they will make Europe at all.
