Transfer expert Pete O’Rourke has told Give Me Sport that Harry Kane would love Tottenham Hotspur to sign England teammate James Ward-Prowse from Southampton this summer – with Spurs said to be interested in the midfielder.
Ward-Prowse, 28, continues to be the heartbeat of a Southampton side fighting to stay in the Premier League. He was crucial in the Saints keeping a clean sheet and nabbing a point against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
A result that has also helped Spurs in their pursuit of a top-four finish. TalkSPORT are one of many outlets to have report that Tottenham and West Ham are keen on signing the 11-time England star in the coming weeks and months.
The sticking point is that Ward-Prowse has a contract at Southampton until the summer of 2026. Just three games shy of clocking up 400 games for the club, he could leave this summer. O’Rourke claims Kane would love him at Spurs.
“I’m sure if they asked for Kane’s input into a move it would only get positives. He’s a top player, Ward-Prowse. Proven in the Premier League, England international. I think he’d be a great fit for Tottenham if they did move for him.”

So, would he be a good fit at Spurs – and crucially, how much will Daniel Levy have to fork out to nab his signature? The contract complicates things. But Southampton can hardly stand in his way if their valuation is met in the summer.
He has given his entire career, to this date, at Southampton. Relegation would almost certainly see Ward-Prowse leave the club. He is a player that Micah Richards has claimed is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League.
Even if Southampton go down, Ward-Prowse is still likely to cost north of £40million. But he is a player Spurs lack, the kind of player capable of scoring goals, creating them from deep. Levy should be doing everything he can to sign him.
