It has been claimed that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton were concerned about appointing Eddie Howe as their manager due to his perceived lack of big personality.
The Newcastle United boss has earned the respect of most fans and pundits alike for steering them to 5th place and a Carabao Cup final this season, whilst having led them to a 9th place finish last campaign.
But it seems like Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton were perhaps uninterested in bringing in Eddie Howe due to their issues with his personality.
Arsenal, Tottenham & Everton did not appoint Howe for bizarre reason
It seemed at one stage that all three clubs perhaps needed a new manager to get them out of the ruts they found themselves in.
While the Gunners were struggling under Mikel Arteta until last season, Spurs and the Toffees have lacked stability in the managerial role for years at this point.
Despite all of Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton looking to hire Eddie Howe at some point, they decided not to due to a rather confusing reason.
“I think that’s a concern that probably Everton had about him at one stage when they were thinking about him, Arsenal had about him when they were thinking about him at one stage Is he big enough, personality wise? Tottenham as well”, journalist Oliver Kay said on The Athletic Football Podcast.
Strange to say the least
If Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton had footballing reasons to doubt whether Eddie Howe was the right fit to manage them, then fair enough.
But to judge Howe’s personality, based on mere interviews and public appearances and to deem that as enough of a factor not to hire him is ridiculously bizarre from all three clubs.
One hopes the Premier League trio make such high-profile decisions with a lot more sense going forward.
