Jamie Redknapp has suggested that players like Newcastle United transfer target James Maddison play with ‘no fear’, which he thinks will be crucial to Leicester City surviving relegation from the Premier League.
On Saturday, Maddison helped Brendan Rodgers’ side record a much-needed point at Brentford and Redknapp thinks the English midfielder supplied an ‘incredible’ assist for Harvey Barnes’ goal.
From Maddison’s 19 Premier League games this season, which have also been riddled with injuries, the 26-year-old has an impressive nine goals and five assists.
If Leicester are to survive, then Maddison will play a huge part, but either way, whatever happens, his reputation is through the roof ahead of the summer transfer window.
There will be 12 months left to run on the playmaker’s contract in June and it seems as though he will head for the exit door, with Champions League-chasing Newcastle United long-term admirers.
Well, as the games tick by in the Premier League and Leicester continue to be indifferent, one constant is their star man in the middle, which was touched upon by Redknapp, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (18/03/23 at 8:15 pm).
“James Maddison is so key, he has had a few injuries,” said Redknapp. “They had to bring him off (against Brentford). It was a big point for them. Brentford is a tough place to go.
“He came off quite late into the game, but they are having to manage his injury. You do feel, if James Maddison stays fit, then they will stay up comfortably because of what he can do on the ball.
“He played an incredible ball for Harvey Barnes (to score). He sees the game differently from anybody else. When you are in a relegation battle, I always feel the players that play with no fear are the ones you need in this predicament.”
MADDISON WOULD COOK UNDER HOWE
Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and James Maddison is a partnership that needs to be mixed together at St James’ Park because it could prove to be deadly.
The above two players are perhaps, on paper, the most talented players under Eddie Howe and the ones who are and will fire them to the next level.
There is no doubt that the quick-thinking Maddison can join that next season and seriously cook for a manager like Howe, that’s if Newcastle can win his signature because many, many teams will be keen.
