Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are all understood to be tracking Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz.
That’s according to 90Min, who claim that interest in Wirtz is mounting ahead of the summer transfer window.
It’s suggested that Manchester City have reignited their interest in signing Wirtz.
Pep Guardiola seems to be interested in adding another midfielder this summer and Wirtz is on the radar.
The report adds that City face Premier League competition for Wirtz though with Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham all keen.
Leverkusen allegedly don’t expect to sell Wirtz this summer given that he is still under contract until 2027.
A big cash offer could tempt Leverkusen but Wirtz want to make sure he is playing regularly ahead of Euro 2024.
Florian Wirtz would be exciting for Arsenal, Newcastle or Tottenham
Wirtz is only recently back from injury having torn his anterior cruciate ligament in March of last year.
The 19-year-old has now played 13 times this season, notching two goals and six assists.
Wirtz is highly rated in Germany and had been hailed as a ‘very special player’ by Leverkusen teammate Karim Bellarabi.
It’s easy to imagine Wirtz and Martin Odegaard dovetailing in the final third for Arsenal.
That may make Arsenal a little more vulnerable defensively but Wirtz is the kind of technical star Gunners fans would love.
Tottenham certainly miss a player of Wirtz’s profile; Spurs just don’t have that creative number 10 who can get in between the lines to create in the final third.
Wirtz wouldn’t be a natural fit in an Antonio Conte team but he may make more sense under a new manager.
Newcastle are certainly seeking an attack-minded midfielder and have long chased Leicester star James Maddison.
Wirtz is younger and has incredible potential, but convincing him to leave Leverkusen won’t be easy.
