Tottenham Hotspur are still keen on signing Jordan Pickford despite the goalkeeper signing a new contract with Everton.
That’s according to The Sun, who claim that Pickford is still Tottenham’s top goalkeeping target despite his new deal at Goodison Park.
Pickford only recently signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal with Everton until the summer of 2027.
It’s noted that Pickford hasn’t disappeared from Tottenham’s wish list though and they’re still eyeing a summer move.
Everton would allegedly want around £35million for Pickford this summer, a fee that Tottenham may be tempted to pay.
Yet it’s added that there is an agreement in place for Pickford to leave Everton should they drop into the Championship.
Tottenham therefore aren’t completely out of hope for Pickford – even if a deal seems pretty unlikely.
Tottenham shouldn’t focus solely on Jordan Pickford
We can understand the appeal of Pickford.
The Everton stopper is a homegrown goalkeeper who already has relationships with the likes of Eric Dier and Harry Kane from England duty.
Pickford has only just turned 29 so has plenty left in the tank and his distribution could appeal to Tottenham.
There are so many goalkeepers out there being linked with Tottenham though and focusing on a goalkeeper who just signed a new deal may not be the best idea.
David Raya, Robert Sanchez, Dean Henderson, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Diogo Costa and Emiliano Martinez are just some of the names in the mix.
Some of those have expiring deals in 2024 or are angling for moves away this summer.
They make more sense for Tottenham than Pickford and we would predict that he ends up staying with Everton if they stay up.
Should Everton go down then maybe things will get a little trickier, but we think Spurs will end up signing somebody else as the heir to Hugo Lloris.
