Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has apologised to fans after missing a penalty against West Ham United – and received support from Alexandre Lacazette.

The Gunners looked absolutely irresistible in the opening stages of Sunday’s trip to West Ham.

Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard scored inside the first 10 minutes and Arsenal appeared to be romping to victory.

One mistake from Thomas Partey appeared to change the whole game though as Declan Rice swooped in to find Lucas Paqueta, who was brought down by Gabriel Magalhaes.

Said Benrahma converted the spot kick and Arsenal were left stunned as Jarrod Bowen fired an equaliser.

For the second time in a week, Arsenal had squandered a 2-0 lead to end up drawing 2-2.

Arsenal had a golden chance to go 3-1 up just before that Bowen leveller though as Michail Antonio was penalised for handball inside the area.

Bukayo Saka stepped up from the penalty spot but sent his effort wide – and Arsenal are left to rue that missed opportunity.

Alexandre Lacazette sends message to Bukayo Saka

Saka has experienced penalty heartbreak in the past, not that he really needs any reminder.

Saka has taken to Instagram to send an emotional message to Arsenal fans this evening.

The winger noted that he will always take responsibility for his errors no matter what the final score may be.

Saka apologised to supporters whilst promising that he will do whatever it takes to make up for his penalty miss.

“Regardless of the outcome, I’ll always accept my responsibility,” said Saka. “Apologies Gunners, I’ll do everything I can to make it right,” he added.

Arsenal fans of course offered messages of support to Saka and there was even a reply from Alexandre Lacazette.

The former Arsenal striker may have left North London for Lyon last summer but he is still keeping close tabs on the Gunners.

Lacazette offered three emojis to Saka; a love heart, a salute and a reference to his nickname ‘little chilli’.

Saka will no doubt appreciate Lacazette’s support and he will have the love from Arsenal players past and present after this penalty miss.
