Recent reports surrounding Chris Hemsworth’s health have left fans concerned and wondering if he has Alzheimer’s – here’s a look at his diagnosis.

The Australian actor had his mind and body thoroughly checked while filming the National Geographic and Disney+ docuseries, Limitless. He learned from those tests about the high risk of being vulnerable to Alzheimer’s, owing to the genes he carries from both his parents.

While he hasn’t disclosed any plans of retirement from acting, Chris Hemsworth is considering taking some time off work.

Does Chris Hemsworth have Alzheimer’s?

No, Chris hasn’t been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s as of today, April 4, 2023.

However, he revealed in an interview that he’s at high risk of suffering from the health condition in the later stages of his life.

A detailed genetic testing run on him for the docuseries showed that the actor was carrying two copies of the APOE4 gene – one from each of his parents – linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

While one in four people carry a single copy of the gene, according to a study conducted by the National Institute of Health, less than 3 per cent of the population have both. The Thor star happens to be one of them.

The actor explained previously: “Yeah, it’s like one in a thousand people…or one in 10,000. I can’t remember. But eight to 10 times more likely. Since you told me that, I feel like my memory’s getting worse. It’s a placebo effect—or it’s taking place!”

He isn’t retiring

Although sources claim that the actor is considering taking a good amount of time off acting to focus on his health, retirement isn’t on his mind.

After learning about the high risk of Alzheimer’s, Chris shared that he wants to take some time off from his usual busy schedule to be with his family and focus on his health.

“I’m not talking about retiring by any means, but like you said: it’s a more curated approach to things,” he clarified.

According to Page Six, one source claimed: “He doesn’t plan to take on many roles because of [learning about his high risk for] Alzheimer’s.”

The outlet learned from insiders that “his schedule is starting to look awfully clear in the not-too-distant future.”

Actor has projects lined up for the near future

Filming for the docuseries had a major impact on the actor’s life as it made him rethink to who he wanted to dedicate his time.

“Doing an episode on death and facing your own mortality made me go, ‘Oh God, I’m not ready to go yet.’ I want to sit and be in this space with a greater sense of stillness and gratitude,” he shared.

The actor said he has been completing projects he has already signed for, in order to be able to have a good chunk of time with his wife, Elsa Pataky, and their three kids.

However, he does a couple of projects lined up for the next few years, including his recurring role in Extraction 2 and Furiosa, a Mad Max Fury Road sequel set to release in 2024.

He will also feature in the Avengers sequel: Avengers: Secret Wars, and an unnamed Hulk Hogan biopic which is slated for a 2026 release.
