Tottenham Hotspur are currently in pursuit of a new manager after parting company with Antonio Conte.

The Italian left Spurs by mutual consent in March, in wake of his explosive post-Southampton press conference.

Plenty of coaches have been linked with the Tottenham reins, including Mauricio Pochettino and Julian Nagelsmann.

Another name that has been doing the rounds is that of Luis Enrique, who previously managed Barcelona and Spain.

Sport has now provided an update on Tottenham’s purported interest in the 52-year-old Champions League winner.

The Spanish outlet – via Sport Witness – claims Spurs and Chelsea ‘stand out’ as Enrique’s likeliest destinations.

Tottenham are said to be ‘crying out for a coach’ who meets Daniel Levy’s requirements following Conte’s exit.

And Spurs apparently ‘dream’ of making the Spaniard their next manager.

Indeed, Tottenham reportedly put Enrique’s name on the table even before they parted ways with Conte.

‘He wants something long-term’

In March, Italian journalist Tony Damascelli suggested that Spurs have already made contact with Enrique.

He told CMW: “I know that Luis Enrique has already been contacted, there is a good possibility that he will go to England.”

More recently, Fabrizio Romano suggested the 52-year-old wants to return to management as soon as possible.

Writing on CaughtOffside, the transfer insider said: “Luis Enrique is open to joining English clubs.

“But it depends on the project, he wants something long-term and not just short-term.

“He wants to return as soon as possible.”

Our view

Enrique seems keen on a long-term project, and that’s definitely what Tottenham are at present.

There’s a lot of work that needs to be done at N17 before Spurs can be sustainably challenging for trophies.

However, with the Chelsea job now opening up, Tottenham will have serious competition for new coaches.

We’ll see what happens on this front, but Enrique is definitely a great manager who could hopefully turn Spurs’ fortunes around.
