Chelsea are moving to make Julian Nagelsmann their new manager as they attempt to land the Tottenham Hotspur target.
The Blues saw Leicester City part ways with Brendan Rodgers on Sunday afternoon and decided to follow suit.
Graham Potter was given his marching orders on Sunday night, just over 24 hours after losing 2-0 at home to Aston Villa.
Potter only left Brighton and Hove Albion for Chelsea in September but has already been given his marching orders.
12 wins, eight draws and 11 defeats in 31 games has seen Todd Boehly and co lose patience with Potter.
Chelsea will now go big for a new manager and Nagelsmann appears to be a prime candidate.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea have already made approaches to try and make Nagelsmann their new manager.
Christopher Vivell and Laurence Stewart – two key decision-makers at Chelsea – have strong ties to Nagelsmann from the Red Bull operation.
That could help smooth out a deal to bring Nagelsmann to Stamford Bridge and kill off Tottenham’s hopes.
Tottenham also want Julian Nagelsmann
Ever since Nagelsmann was sacked by Bayern Munich in March, the 35-year-old has been linked with Tottenham.
The Telegraph reported in March that Tottenham were seeking talks with Nagelsmann over replacing Antonio Conte.
The noises emerging from Germany were that Nagelsmann would wait until the summer to decide his future.
That wasn’t exactly ideal for Spurs, who will have been hoping for a firm indication that Nagelsmann is keen on the job.
Chelsea sacking Potter and seemingly making Nagelsmann their top target is exactly why Tottenham will have wanted some kind of sign.
The Blues are now able to throw money at Nagelsmann and attempt to reunite him with Vivell in West London.
This is a real blow for Tottenham and they are now left hoping for a miracle in their pursuit of Nagelsmann.
