Did you know the parent company of Jim Beam, Suntory, has been a long-time supporter of the LGBTQ+ community? The Japanese brewing and distilling company group holds Pride celebrations every month to encourage inclusivity within its workforce.

After conservatives took issue with Bud Light’s campaign featuring the transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, liberals are drawing attention to other alcohol or beer brands that have openly supported the LGBTQ+ community.

While Jack Daniels’ drag queen campaign appears to have triggered the anti-woke groups in the wake of the new controversy, here’s how another whiskey brand, also the owner of Jim Beam, has extended its support for the marginalized community.

Parent company of Jim Beam celebrates Pride Month annually

Jim Beam, owned by the Japanese group Suntory, established its first global DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity) vision in 2021, holding Pride events every year since, to reaffirm its commitment to the LGBTQ community, while celebrating every individual.

Suntorians across the globe observe Pride month by celebrating “the resilience, strength, and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community,” the company’s website notes.

The month-long events aim at uplifting the “unique identities” of its employees through “empowerment and Pride.”

The CEO of Suntory Beverage & Food APAC, Taka Sanno, inaugurated the Head Office’s Rainbow Walk and opened Suntory Pride in New Zealand in June 2021.

Whiskey brand has been spreading LGBTQ+ awareness

Suntory has actively held discussions around LGBTQ+ in its offices across the world to ensure there’s ample awareness about issues faced by people belonging to minority communities.

In the United States, Suntory has created an LGBTQ+ Employee Impact Group called PRISM, which celebrated Pride month with a bottle display to reflect the rainbow Pride flag.

“Suntory strives to promote and advance a culture of inclusion not only in June, but throughout the year, and we work to align this vision with actions that benefit all,” the company notes.

Bud Light’s controversy surrounding Dylan Mulvaney in 2023 explained

Calls for boycotting Bud Light beer have been rallying since the company released a campaign featuring Dylan Mulvaney as their spokesperson.

Non-liberals are of the opinion that Anheuser-Busch didn’t take into consideration supposed traditional American values while making a campaign with a transgender person on the forefront.

But, the company clarified that the Bud Light cans featuring Dylan’s face were only meant to celebrate the influencer’s milestone, and had nothing to do with its sales.
