Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Cristian Stellini has provided an injury update on Spurs forward Richarlison.

The Italian told football.london that the Tottenham attacking talent is inching closer to a return to action.

However, Stellini stressed that Richarlison probably won’t be available until the “next game” after this weekend.

The 25-year-old injured his calf in the opening minutes of Tottenham’s 3-3 draw with Southampton in March.

Reports were doing the rounds suggesting Richarlison could’ve been back after the Everton game.

However, Stellini all-but confirmed that the £175,000-a-week ace won’t be in action against Brighton on Saturday.

The Spurs caretaker boss said Richarlison is still training alone, adding that Ben Davies is also still unavailable.

“No good news about players that come back for the next game,” said Stellini.

“We are getting closer with Richarlison. He trained on the pitch but he trained alone.

“We are going well with Ben Davies with the plan but we have to wait a bit for him.

“[Richarlison] trained on the pitch. He is going well and for the next game he could be available.”

Richarlison’s absence means Stellini can pick between four first-team players for his front three.

Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Arnaut Danjuma remain available.

Lucas Moura is not available for selection following his sending-off in Monday’s 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Our view

Richarlison has experienced a lot of bad luck this season, both in front of goal and in terms of injuries.

In addition, Antonio Conte often played him out of position on the wings, so he had to adapt to that too.

Richarlison has, however, had plenty of promising moments that suggest he can be a great player for Spurs.

It’s a shame he is still out injured, but hopefully once he’s back he can kick on and help salvage the season for himself and for the club.
