Meghan Trainor is receiving backlash for her recent comment in her podcast, but what did the singer say about teachers in her podcast?
School shootings have been increasing in the US and parents have become concerned about the safety of their children.
Amid this, Meghan Trainor shared her thoughts about raising her children and there were a couple of things that the internet was not happy to hear.
What did Meghan Trainor say about teachers?
In her podcast, Workin’ On It, Meghan invited YouTube personality Trisha Paytas and the pair decided to discuss about their respective children.
In it, Trisha stated that she is going to homeschool her child and Meghan was quick to agree. Amid this conversation, the singer said: “Everyone in TikTok is. They are like this is what it is like to have a kid in school in America, have a bullet proof backpack and I was like, f**k all that, f***k teachers, dude.”
The snippet from her podcast was quick to go viral on social media and people called out the singer for her words.
Users react to her comment
People were quick to slam Meghan for her comments on social media as one user wrote: “Hey, @Meghan_Trainor, I’ve been expected to put my life on the line in the classroom since Columbine, and I keep showing up every day. Maybe you should get some teacher friends and talk to them before you spout ignorance.”
Another added: “Words matter, and you just confirmed to all of your followers that it is ok to abuse teachers. This is especially abhorrent during a time when socially & politically, teachers need all of the support we can get.”
“Hearing @Meghan_Trainor talk dismissively about public schools is so disappointing. So many students have to go to public school because they don’t have the money or accessibility for private school or homeschooling. Teachers are superheroes doing the best for their kids,” said one more.
“Appalling . My wife was a teacher. Many of my friends are teachers. Teachers change lives and as we see all the time now with gun violence in schools, save lives. Anyone who says “F teachers” is canceled for me. Period,” said one more user.
Singer issues apology for her remarks
Seeing the social media backlash, it did not take long for Meghan to come forward and issue an apology.
Addressing the controversy on TikTok, she said: “Teachers of TikTok and teachers of the world, I recently said F teachers in a podcast and it is not how I feel. I was fired up how sending your kid to school here in America is so horrific and what all of us have to go through, especially teachers is not normal and not okay.”
The singer pointed out that she was aware about the challenges Trisha had faced with her teachers and it reminded her of the experience she and her husband had. In the heat of the moment led to poor choice of words, the singer says.
She continued: “I love teachers, I fight for teachers, I think they have the hardest job and they are the most underpaid.”
She ended the video by saying: “I don’t want to make excuses. I’m so sorry to any teacher that I made feel bad.”
