Crystal Palace and Southampton have now received a slight boost in their respective pursuits of Liel Abada as Celtic identify a replacement.

The Eagles and the Saints are both interested in signing the Israel international as a result of his impressive efforts at Parkhead.

Now, there has been a fresh development.

What’s the story?

Well – according to The Scottish Sun – Celtic have shortlisted Levi Garcia amid doubts over the future of Abada.

The Celtic No.11 – who arrived in a £3.6m deal from Maccabi Petah Tikva back in July 2021 – has only made ten starts in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Abada has scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 41 appearances across all competitions despite his lack of starts, which is an excellent return.

The Scottish Sun believe the Crystal Palace and Southampton target is likely to leave Glasgow this summer, despite the fact he still has three years remaining on his contract.

Ajax and Benfica are also interested in signing Abada.

The Scottish Sun do not mention a specific price tag, but it is stated that Celtic expect Abada to bring in four or five times more than the £3.6m initially invested in his signature.

Crystal Palace & Southampton must be careful with Abada

In our view, it is important that the Premier League duo do not overpay for Abada with Celtic hoping to receive a sum in the region of £15m – £20m.

The 21-year-old has shown flashes of his talent in Glasgow, but Crystal Palace and Southampton must be wary of spending a significant fee on a player who is not one of the first names in Celtic’s starting XI.

£15m – £20m represents a large amount of money. Crystal Palace managed to find gems such as Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi for figures within that bracket, both of whom had plenty of experience in English football.

Abada has never played in England before at any level, so it would be a major risk to spend over £15m or more on his services.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen this summer.
