Everton manager Sean Dyche has provided an optimistic update on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s fitness.
The Toffees boss said the Goodison Park striker is “certainly” in his mind to feature on Saturday.
Dyche also said Calvert-Lewin “felt good” after taking part in a behind-closed-doors friendly in midweek.
The Everton head coach was speaking to the Blues media team on Thursday ahead of the trip to Crystal Palace.
Calvert-Lewin has been missing for Everton since February due to a hamstring injury.
The 25-year-old picked up a hamstring injury in Dyche’s first game in charge.
However, Dyche confirmed Calvert-Lewin took part in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Finch Farm this week.
The Everton boss says the striker successfully came through the game against Chester with no ill-effects.
“He will certainly be in my thinking, without a doubt,” Dyche told the Everton media team.
“[The behind-closed-doors match] was all about him, really.
“It was the end of a rehab period so we’re very pleased that he came through that and he felt good.”
Dyche also provided a fitness update on Amadou Onana, Seamus Coleman and Ruben Vinagre.
He said the Belgian midfielder is on the mend and is a possibility to feature against the Eagles.
However, Coleman won’t be ready, while Vinagre is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
“Ama has made a bit more of a recovery,” said Dyche.
“He was training (Thursday) and we’ll see how that reacts tomorrow. Seamus won’t be right for this one.
“Ruben has got an injury that will unfortunately keep him out for some time.
“He may need surgery, we are not sure yet. He’s seeing a specialist so that decision will be made imminently.”
Our view
It’s been a difficult season for Calvert-Lewin and for Everton alike.
The £1.5million star has only featured in 11 Premier League games this season for a total of 735 minutes.
Meanwhile, the Toffees have been deprived of their only No. 9 for much of the campaign.
Hopefully Calvert-Lewin is past the worst of it and enjoys a fruitful return to action.
With Everton above the bottom three on goal difference, the pressure is on and it could come down to fine margins.
Calvert-Lewin is a great player and hopefully he can help make the difference for the Toffees in the coming weeks.
