Alan Shearer has praised Arsenal transfer target Kaoru Mitoma for his performance as Brighton continued their Champions League push by beating Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer added ‘what a signing’ Kaoru Mitoma has been for Brighton as he cooks in one of the most difficult leagues in the world.
Ironically enough, it was Leandro Trossard’s departure during the January transfer window to Arsenal that allowed the Japan star to earn more regular starts at the Amex Stadium.
The 25-year-old hasn’t looked back because he has been outstanding for Roberto De Zerbi’s men, scoring seven goals and assisting five over the course of the season.
And Mitoma has a fan in Alan Shearer, who waxed lyrical about the all-action speedster and his performance at Stamford Bridge, as he told Premier League Productions (15/04/23 at 3:55 pm).
“This guy Mitoma on the ball, what a signing and what a player he is,” said Shearer. “Full of confidence. Full of belief. Great ability.
“The way he just stops the defender, then goes again. The defender thinks he has got him, but as soon as he stops the defender he’s away again. Mac Allister should really put them away, then another great run and another fantastic save by Kepa.”
MITOMA WOULD COOK AT ARSENAL
Brighton fans might not like to hear it, but Mitoma is very much an Arsenal type of a player and someone that would cook in their colours.
With sharp movement, immaculate ball-carrying ability, and the quality to score from wide and speed on the counter, it will be interesting to see what happens with the player during these coming transfer windows.
Amid Arsenal’s interest in Mitoma, those in the Brighton boardroom have reportedly set an asking price for the player.
