There’s no such thing as a slow news day when it comes to keeping up with the latest TikTok trends. From corgis to giant worms, literally anything can, and will, go viral on the video-sharing app. The latest bizarre instance of something random going viral is a clip from ABC series, The Good Doctor, but why exactly are people so obsessed with it?
Dr Han’s I am a surgeon meme explained
The Dr Han ‘I am a surgeon’ meme stems from a clip from season 2 of The Good Doctor, specifically an episode titled Breakdown, in which Freddie Highmore’s character, Dr. Sean Murphy, confronts Dr. Jackson Han, played by Daniel Dae Kim.
An extremely emotional, irate Murphy can be seen storming into the office of Han, his senior, demanding that he be reinstated as a surgeon, having been excluded from carrying out a tumor removal.
“I am a surgeon!”, Murphy asserts to Han repeatedly, getting increasingly flustered and emotional throughout, only to be met by disdain from his colleague.
The meme actually went viral back in 2019 after prompting discussion about the portrayal of characters with autism. The resurgence of the video in 2023 appears to be down to the hysterical nature of the clip, however, with many users finding the scene to be overly dramatic and somewhat amusing.

Various TikTok users have been pretty open about what they make of the clip, and have subsequently created several wacky variations of the I am a surgeon video.

Beneath the original clip, which has racked up just shy of 20 million views at the time of writing, one of the top comments simply reads “I think he’s a surgeon guys idk”.
