Chelsea appear to be closing in on Mauricio Pochettino but conflicting reports surround a move for Paul Mitchell.
The Blues have picked out Pochettino as the long-term successor to Graham Potter at the end of the season.
Chelsea may consider other appointments to aid their summer transfer window with Mitchell linked.
The Sun claim that Chelsea are planning to hire Mitchell this summer to help them offload some fringe players.
The exact job title wasn’t disclosed but Mitchell’s contacts in France and Germany are allegedly appealing to Chelsea.
Mitchell is also close with Pochettino having previously worked together at Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.
A move to Chelsea may seem ideal, reuniting the pair in an attempt to sort out the Blues’ squad.
However, there are conflicting claims about Mitchell heading to Stamford Bridge.
Paul Mitchell to Chelsea played down
The London Evening Standard claim that Chelsea have no plans to make more changes to their recruitment setup.
It’s stated that Mitchell was of interest to Chelsea back in September, but their interest has now ended.
Chelsea have landed two sporting directors in Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley this season.
Add in technical director Christopher Vivell and Chelsea don’t seem to really have a space for Mitchell right now.
Vivell does have history with Mitchell though as they actually worked together with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
Mitchell currently serves as sporting director of Ligue 1 side Monaco, but he is expected to leave this summer.
Links to Liverpool have been played down too, so the mixed Chelsea rumours mean it’s difficult to see just where Mitchell will be heading.
We’re inclined to believe the Standard’s reports and a reunion between Pochettino and Mitchell now looks a little hard to imagine.
