Glenn Murray thinks Tottenham Hotspur transfer target James Maddison will ‘fancy his chances’ at Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.

The Leicester City star is facing the possibility of suffering relegation to the Championship, with Dean Smith’s side needing to win on the final day of the 2022/23 season and results also having to go in their favour.

On Monday night, James Maddison came off the bench to help the Foxes record a valuable 0-0 draw against Newcastle United, in what Murray thinks was an ‘audition’, as he told Premier League Productions (22/05/23 at 4:50 pm).

Whether Leicester go down or not, with 12 months left to run on the 26-year-old’s contract, he has to be heading for the exit door – Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have also expressed an interest.

Many teams across the Premier League will be piling up to secure his signature, for Gabby Agbonlahor, Tottenham ‘need’ a player of his ilk.

But, for Murray, he thinks Maddison would prefer a move to St James’ Park, especially given that the Magpies will be playing Champions League football next season.

“That man (James Maddison) could find his football at St James’ Park next season,” said Murray.

“It’s maybe (an audition). But James Madison might fancy his chances up there. Just to impress the owners.”

MADDISON SHOULD JOIN NEWCASTLE

The Magpies secured Champions League football on Monday night and they can now dream big, in terms of transfers.

That lure of playing in Europe’s elite competition will allow them to secure those elite players, although, whilst many expected Newcastle to go money-crazy in the market, they haven’t done so far.

Nonetheless, with 12 months left to run on Maddison’s contract, he should look to secure a transfer to Eddie Howe’s side, where he would fit in like a glove alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.
