» » » 'He has to do better': Michail Antonio critical of £365k-a-week Manchester United star

Michail Antonio says Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has ‘crazy moments’ to his game after he gifted West Ham United a goal on Sunday at the London Stadium.

With the game goalless in the first half, West Ham playmaker Said Benrahma decided to take a shot from distance and everyone in the stadium thought David de Gea was going to grasp the ball with ease.

But, instead, the under-fire Manchester United star parried the tame shot into the back of his own net.

It proved to be a costly moment from the £365k-a-week star (Spotrac) because Erik ten Hag’s men opened the Champions League door for Liverpool by suffering back-to-back defeats.

Whilst it was heartache for those in Manchester, it was delight for those in Claret and Blue because those points should now keep them up, with Michail Antonio sharing his thoughts on de Gea’s moments of madness, as he told The Footballer’s Football Show

“I can’t slate the man,” said Antonio. “I don’t really want to slate the man. But de Gea has got to do better.

“I don’t understand. He is such a good keeper. But he has these moments. I feel so bad for the guy. He was up there as one of the best keepers in the world, even though he is up there, he still has these crazy moments.

“That goal. It was so slow. When I saw the shot I thought ‘he is just going to collect this’.”

WEST HAM ACCEPT GIFT

David Moyes’ side are on 37 points and those three points against Manchester United should now keep them up.

It was a gift from de Gea, but they duly obliged, accepted it and secured the much-needed clean sheet to go with the points.

For Manchester United, they are now looking over their shoulder at fifth-placed Liverpool, who are on a six-game winning run and believe they have a chance of taking their Champions League place during these final few weeks of the campaign.

As for West Ham, it’s all eyes on Europe and their semi-final Europa Conference League clash against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night.
