Jim Brown couldn’t have been more proud when he announced his son Aris was going to play lacrosse at his university.
The legendary NFL player passed away on Thursday and he’s survived by his wife and their two children, in addition to four other children from his previous relationships.
Although Jim was one of the best running backs in NFL history, he was a famed lacrosse star himself, having earned a First-Team All-American selection in his senior season at Syracuse.
Aris Brown played lacrosse at Hampton University
Aris, who is now 21, is reportedly a pro lacrosse player who joined Hampton University in 2020.
During the pandemic, when Aris joined the lacrosse team at his university, he shared the exciting news in an Instagram post. The post has now been deleted.
He wrote at the time: “I’m very proud and blessed to announce my commitment to play Division 1 lacrosse at Hampton University. I’d like to thank God, my family, friends, and coaches for helping me through the way.”
His father was a huge fan of lacrosse throughout his life and apparently even treated it as his favorite sport.
Following Jim’s passing, Jacksonville University lacrosse coach John Galloway shared his fond memories of the star player by saying: “He’s said and written many times that lacrosse was actually his favorite sport.
“His son [Aris] played lacrosse at Hampton University. He is as much a legend in the lacrosse community, especially in the Northeast, as he is in football.”
Jim Brown’s son pays him tribute
Hours after his father’s passing, Aris took to Instagram to pay him a touching tribute.
The young player also shared what looks like the most recent picture with Jim and one throwback photo from when he was a toddler being carried by his father.
Aris shared: “You were an amazing father and role model. I am blessed to call you my father and learn so much from you.
“You gave me the best childhood anyone could ask for, and always wanted me to be happy. I can’t thank you enough for that. I love you pops!”
Former NFL legend was a father to many children
Jim shared Aris and Morgan with Monique, who he was married to until his death. While Aris followed in the footsteps of his father, Morgan is reportedly a professional photographer. She is believed to have played soccer in college.
Meanwhile, his other daughter, Kimberly B Brown, is an actress and an executive producer who has worked on shows such as Daughter of Legends and One Night in Miami.
His eldest son, Jim N Brown Jr., also pursued a career in sports in the ’80s but has kept his personal life private otherwise.
Reportedly, Jim lost his other daughter Karen Brown Ward in 2016, but the name of her mother wasn’t revealed. Jim was married to his first wife, Sue, from 1959 and 1972 and the couple shared three children together.
