Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka is tempted by the chance to join Bayer Leverkusen – and we could see an exchange deal involving Moussa Diaby.
That is according to a report from The Sun, who claim that Leverkusen are willing to offer a long-term deal to Xhaka.
The 30-year-old has one year left on his Arsenal deal although there is a one-year option on the contract.
It’s stated that Xhaka is now tempted by the security of a long-term deal with Leverkusen – one that Arsenal likely wouldn’t offer.
Arsenal would allegedly consider selling Xhaka for around £15million this summer – around half what they paid in 2016.
Xhaka was a star in Germany with Borussia Monchengladbach and a return to the Bundesliga may appeal.
Arsenal fans have really taken to Xhaka this season and the way he has bounced back from a very testing period in 2019 is admirable.
Few could have expected Xhaka to leave this summer but Leverkusen’s push could give him something to think about.
Arsenal could yet secure Moussa Diaby in Granit Xhaka swap
The report also talks up the possibility of Arsenal allowing Xhaka to join Leverkusen in a part-exchange deal.
Arsenal are very interested in signing Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby, but he will cost a hefty price tag.
The rumours surrounding Diaby to Arsenal have been going on for a while now.
Fabrizio Romano claimed in March that The Gunners have been chasing Diaby for two years, showing a long-standing interest.
The Daily Mail even reported last week that Arsenal will focus on signing Diaby before going for Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha.
It’s clear that Edu and Mikel Arteta are making Diaby a top priority for the summer window.
Arsenal probably didn’t expect Xhaka to become a factor in this potential move but that is now a real possibility.
If Leverkusen were ready to demand upwards of £60million for Diaby, Xhaka could help bring that price down.
That potential swap may also give Arsenal an advantage over any other interested clubs, which sounds appealing – but it would require Arteta to give up a key player.
