As Liverpool prepare to face Fulham on Wednesday night, it has been reported that Thiago Alcantara is set to be out for the season due to a hip injury.
Liverpool vs Fulham: Thiago injury means he is out for the season
The £20 million (Sky Sports) man has played just 93 minutes of football since returning from his previous setback in April.
However, the Times journalist Paul Joyce has indeed revealed that the hip injury still seems to bother Liverpool midfielder Thiago as he will not only miss his side’s upcoming clash against Fulham but the remainder of the season as well.
Perhaps the good news for the Anfield faithful is that the injury-prone 32-year-old is set to undergo surgery, which could perhaps lessen his unavailability in the future.
But as Jurgen Klopp is picking his Liverpool midfield against Fulham as well as for games against Brentford, Leicester, Aston Villa and Southampton, an injury to Thiago will deem him unavailable for now.
How much of a blow is this to the Merseyside-based club?
HITC View: No Thiago is not as much of a blow as it usually is
Branded as ‘sensational’ by Jurgen Klopp himself while speaking to talkSPORT, there is no understating how brilliant the Spaniard has been since joining the club in 2020.
However, as seen in games leading up to their upcoming contest against Fulham, Liverpool have been doing just fine without Thiago.
With Curtis Jones thriving in the former Bayern Munich lynchpin’s left-sided midfield role, Fabinho showing signs of improvement and Trent Alexander-Arnold shining as an inverted right-back, the Reds’ midfield has been the best it has been throughout the season.
In fact, Liverpool have been at their very best this campaign in the last couple of games.
As a result, they are capable of surviving the final stretch of the season without their wizard in the middle of the park.
