Tottenham Hotspur are set to sign Guglielmo Vicario – a player Fabio Paratici fancied bringing to North London.
Fabio Paratici may have left Tottenham Hotspur but his influence is still being felt with a move for Guglielmo Vicario.
That is according to Football London, who claim that Paratici was a keen admirer of Empoli goalkeeper Vicario.
Paratici left his post as Tottenham’s director of football in April having been hit with a worldwide ban by FIFA.
Paratici did though set the wheels in motion for a deal to sign Vicario having made enquiries into signing him earlier this year.
Chief scout Leonardo Gabbanini admired Vicario too and Tottenham now appear to be on the verge of a deal for the Empoli stopper.
Tottenham set to snap up Guglielmo Vicario
Rumours over a deal to sign Vicario have ramped up over the last 24 hours or so.
Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter this evening to report that Tottenham have completed an agreement to sign Vicario.
Spurs will be paying €19million (£16.3million) to bring Vicario to the Premier League.
The idea is for Vicario to come in and become the long-term successor to Hugo Lloris, who could leave Spurs this summer.
Romano adds that Vicario will be in London within hours and will sign a contract until 2028 with Tottenham.
The 26-year-old has been in the Italy squad as cover for Gianluigi Donnarumma and has excelled in the last two seasons with Empoli.
Spurs fans may have some reservations after the last Italian goalkeeper to arrive in North London.
Pierluigi Gollini didn’t exactly shine at Tottenham despite having a strong reputation from his Serie A displays.
Hopefully Vicario is better, with Tottenham now trusting the Italian to become their number one stopper for years to come.
