Gabby Agbonlahor has named Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, who is wanted by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, in his flop Premier League XI for this season.
The 26-year-old was relegated with Leicester City on the last day of the Premier League season and in July he will head for the King Power exit door on a free transfer.
It has been suggested that Jurgen Klopp would like him at Liverpool, but for Agbonlahor, Youri Tielemans ‘downed tools’ this term, as he told talkSPORT.
A technical midfielder, with outstanding vision, a versatile passing range and a great ability to score goals from distance.
It will be interesting to see if Tielemans’ stock has taken a hit following relegation because, a few years ago, a number of the big boys would have paid big bucks for him.
Perhaps the Belgium midfielder just needs a change of scenery and he will be back to his best, but for the recently-concluded campaign, he has been named in Agbonlahor’s flop Premier League XI.
“Then I am going to go for Tielemans, he downed tools,” said Agbonlahor. “The last year of his contract. He hasn’t been the player we have seen over the last five or six years. He didn’t look interested in the second half of the season.”
TIELEMANS SAYS ‘FAREWELL’ TO LEICESTER
After scoring the winning goal that helped Leicester win the FA Cup against Chelsea in 2021, it has gone downhill since then for Tielemans and the Midlands club.
Ahead of being a free-agent, he had bid his ‘farewell’ to Leicester and confirmed he won’t be extending his stay.
Given that there will be no transfer fee attached to his name, then it will make it easier for interested parties to sign him, and despite these past 12 months, he should still get a move to a team in the Champions League.
