Gabby Agbonlahor has spoken about the possibility of James Maddison playing alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard at Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta is set to revamp his midfield this summer and there could be major changes to Arsenal’s midfield after they missed out on the Premier League title this season.
It has long been suggested that Declan Rice will move to the Emirates, whilst Agbonlahor added ‘imagine’ the West Ham star being joined by James Maddison in north London, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (31/06/23 at 6:50 am).
There is every chance the duo head for the exit door of their respective clubs this summer, with Rice set to fetch a higher fee than the goalscoring midfielder.
The simple reason for that is Leicester City’s relegation to the Championship means that they can’t secure the transfer fee they want for their player.
That’s why there is talk of Maddison possibly moving for £50 million, with Agbonlahor and Arsenal fan Laura Woods talking about the player possibly moving to the Emirates.
“Maddison and Harvey Barnes, I think there is a lot of interest for them,” said Laura Woods. “I would love to see Maddison at Arsenal.”
“Where would he play?” asked Agbonlahor. “Just find a place for him?! Imagine that. Declan RIce, then Maddison and Odegaard in front.”
RICE MORE IMPORTANT THAN MADDISON
If Arsenal had to pick between the two, then they would go for Rice because that all-round midfield package is more needed ahead of the new season.
In truth, Arteta could do with both because, upon their return to Champions League football, that squad depth is needed.
Last season and this season, from Kieran Tierney to William Saliba, it could be argued that the lack of quality behind the main team after injuries hurt them, well, sign the above duo and that won’t be the case for the midfield next season.
