Robbie Savage has stated that West Ham United star Declan Rice should pick securing a transfer to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool before signing for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Even though Liverpool won’t be playing Champions League football next season, Savage thinks it was a ‘blip’ from the Merseyside club and they will be back in the top four in 12 months.

Added to that, Savage thinks it would be ‘wow’ for Liverpool if they managed to sign Declan Rice after also securing a deal for Alexis Mac Allister, as he told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport

Arsenal have been long-term admirers of Rice and there have been suggestions that a £100 million deal is nearly close.

Given that Liverpool paid £35 million for a World Cup winner, then it’s interesting that the Gunners are putting down such money for a player with only the Europa Conference League trophy to his name.

Nonetheless, not only would Savage tip Rice to move to Anfield before Arsenal, but he would also add Manchester United to that conversation.

“I would go to Liverpool and Manchester United before Arsenal,” said Savage. “Even though Liverpool have got no Champions League football.

“Liverpool, yes, it was a blip this year. I think they will come back stronger. They have signed Mac Allister. If you add Rice as well, WOW! I think they will be in the top four.”

Can Rice elevate Arsenal?

It will be interesting to see how both Mac Allister and Rice fair at their respective clubs next season, especially if the latter ends up at the Emirates.

You could argue that there will be more pressure on the shoulders of Rice because of the price-tag – he was described as a ‘monster’ of a player by his former captain, Mark Noble.

But given the fee Arsenal are paying, then they simply can’t afford to get this one wrong.
