Newcastle United are keen on Rennes talent Desire Doue with agent Mikael Silvestre confirming their interest.

Former Manchester United and Arsenal defender Michael Silvestre has confirmed Newcastle United want Desire Doue.

Silvestre has been speaking to iNews about Doue with Newcastle keen to bring him to England.

Silvestre is a familiar name to Premier League fans after his spells as a defender for Manchester United and Arsenal.

Now an agent, Silvestre represents Rennes talent Doue and Newcastle are showing an interest.

Silvestre claims that Newcastle have spoken to him about Doue having been to watch him in action.

The Frenchman added that these discussions aren’t always just about transfers, but also about how the player is feeling about life in general.

“I know Newcastle came to watch him and were in touch with us,” said Silvestre. “Like a lot of clubs in Europe when they scout, they come and try and speak to the entourage and get a feeling and try to understand what the situation is.”

“It’s not necessarily about the contractual situation but also what’s going on in the life of the player as much as possible before they make a move,” he added.

Newcastle will be looking for impact players next season as they return to the Champions League.

Yet Dan Ashworth will always fancy going for top young players for the future and Doue certainly fits that bill.

Who is Newcastle United target Desire Doue?

Doue has spent his entire career in the Rennes ranks having first joined their youth setup way back at the age of just five.

After featuring in the Rennes second team, Doue made his first-team debut in August of last year.

Doue has continued to make strides forward and even scored a last-gasp winner against Dynamo Kyiv back in October.

Doue finished the season with four goals and one assist in 34 games, playing in a host of midfield roles including out wide and as a number 10.

It hasn’t all been good for Doue though.

The youngster came on as a 69th-minute substitute for Rennes against Lyon in April.

However, Doue was substituted in favour of his own brother, Guela, after just 18 minutes on the pitch.

Boss Bruno Genesio raged about Doue’s performance and urged him to understand instructions quicker in order to fulfil his potential.

Hailed as a ‘skilful dribbler’ on the official Ligue 1 website, Doue appears to have enormous potential and Newcastle may believe he can fulfil it on Tyneside.
