Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have reportedly made contact to sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City.
Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport that Arsenal are interested in signing Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo in the summer transfer window.
The Italian journalist has claimed that there has been contact from Arsenal in regard to the possibility of bringing the 29-year-old to the Emirates Stadium.
The Portugal international – described as “outstanding” by former Citizens star Paul Dickov – spent the second half of this season on loan at Bayern Munich from Premier League champions City.
Romano said: “For Cancelo, yes, they are interested. They had some contact, and they have very good relationship with these agents. So there was a conversation over the possibility to sign Cancelo.”

In our view, Arsenal could be able to sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
There is speculation that the £180,000-a-week (SalarySport) Portuguese star fell out with City manager Guardiola over the latter’s lack of playing time, and that the former Barcelona boss did not stop him from leaving for Bayern on loan in the January transfer window.
So, we do not think that Guardiola would be too keen on keeping the star in his squad for next season and beyond.
A move to Arsenal could be appealing to the 29-year-old.
After all, Arsenal pushed City really hard for the Premier League title this season.
And they will play in the UEFA Champions League next season and will also aim to clinch the title.
