Tottenham Hotspur have been alerted to the potential availability of Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Julen Lopetegui.
Julen Lopetegui’s future remains unclear and Tottenham Hotspur are seemingly aware of his potential availability.
That is according to 90Min, who report that Lopetegui is at least on Tottenham’s radar as they consider a new manager.
Spurs missed out on Feyenoord boss Arne Slot last week and are now reassessing their managerial pursuit.
Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou seems to be the top target but, as with any in-work manager, a move won’t be easy.
It’s therefore wise for Tottenham to have other names in mind and Lopetegui is one manager mentioned.
The Spaniard is a completely different manager to Slot and Postecoglou though, preferring a more conservative brand of football than the attack-minded coaches Spurs have targeted.
This would feel like more of a Fabio Paratici-inspired pick in terms of identifying a defensively-minded coach to try and make Spurs solid.
That’s not the direction Tottenham need to go in right now and we would be surprised if Lopetegui ends up at Spurs.
Julen Lopetegui could be lured away from Wolves
Lopetegui only became Wolves boss back in November having lost his job at Sevilla boss.
The Spaniard came with a big billing having been branded a ‘special’ coach by his former Porto midfielder Ruben Neves.
Lopetegui has successfully kept Wolves in the Premier League, which wasn’t always certain having been bottom at Christmas.
Such is the ambition of the former Real Madrid boss now wants to go and progress with Wolves – but their Financial Fair Play situation isn’t looking good.
Lopetegui has been non-committal over his future so far and talks with the Wolves hierarchy are taking place.
Quitting may not be in Lopetegui’s plans but if Tottenham came calling – as they allegedly did in 2021 – then Lopetegui could be tempted.
