James Collins says West Ham United captain Declan Rice ‘deserves’ his transfer to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Both Arsenal and West Ham fans are waiting for the confirmation to drop and that’s Declan Rice officially being unveiled in the colours of the north London club.

Former Hammer Collins would have seen the 24-year-old transform from a fresh-faced teenager into one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and he added that Rice has been ‘phenomenal’ for the club, as he told talkSPORT (06/07/23 at 9:10 am).

It will be written in the history books, the final game of his career in East London will be that Europa Conference League triumph in Prague.

You would imagine that it makes Rice a West Ham legend, as he became the first Irons captain to lift a major trophy for the first time in over 40 years.

Former Premier League centre-back Collins stated that from the supporters to the current players in the dressing room, they are all backing him to make this move to the Emirates.

“You speak to any West Ham fan, ex-player or player that is there,” said Collins. “You can’t begrudge Declan the move.

“He has been phenomenal for the football club. You look at his last game, lifting the trophy out in Prague. It’s something a West Ham captain hasn’t done in a long time.

“I think both parties have dealt with it really well. I think Dec deserves his move (to Arsenal). He has been phenomenal for West Ham. The way he has handled himself around the training ground.”

Rice in the Champions League

In comparison to Jack Grealish, who had never played in Europe prior to his British record transfer to Manchester City, at least Rice has tasted that life.

A couple of seasons in the Europa League and then winning that Conference League last season.

Of course, it’s a different, different level when it comes to the Champions League, but still, Rice has felt some pressure, but now his skill set is really going to be tested and fans will find out what he is really about.
