On July 9, Skai took to her social media platforms and asked her fans to send $5 to her Cash App for a Macbook raffle. The lucky winner was going to be announced on Instagram and the actress urged fans to take part.
However, many fans were upset that Skai asked for money rather than using her financial means. It did not take long for some to slam the actress online as one wrote: “Skai Jackson asking kids for $5 that Jesse check must be running out.”
Another added: “She should do the raffle for free if she claims she doesn’t need the money.” “This is about as equivalent as the Kardashians hosting them giveaways nobody wins,” read one more comment.
“Why couldn’t she buy the MacBook with her own money and give it away tho?” questioned another.
“Isn’t her family rich? she literally grew up in a penthouse with a butler & a nanny…” one more added.
Skai Jackson defends her decision
After seeing the backlash online Skai decided to break her silence on a TikTok Live. In it, she said: “It is not that serious, for a damn $5. It is called a raffle, I don’t know if you guys have been to school before but I know I’ve been to school and we used to have raffles all the time.”
“The money goes toward the prize, and like I said, if there’s anything left over I’m doing a second giveaway soon. So that’s what it’s going toward.”
She ended by adding: “I do not need money. Me personally, I do not need money. And I’m not saying this like, in a bragging way or anything like that, or in a mean way. I’m just letting you guys know I do not personally need money. Like I am very fine in my life.”
