Dharmesh Sheth says David Moyes’ West Ham United are planning to ‘go back in’ for Southampton midfielder and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, James Ward-Prowse, amid their ‘gap in valuation’ with Manchester United for Scott McTominay.
It has been nearly a month since Declan Rice joined Arsenal for a club-record transfer, but that new midfield player still hasn’t arrived, with a £30 million offer for Scott McTominay being ‘rejected’ by Manchester United.
According to transfer expert Sheth, both West Ham United and the powers that be at Old Trafford aren’t in line with a possible deal for the Scotland international, so that’s why James Ward-Prowse is back on the cards, as he told The Transfer Show on Sky Sports (08/08/23 at 5:05 pm).
The Saints captain has been attracting a lot of interest this summer, including Tottenham planning to hijack a bid for the 28-year-old.
In the meantime, Ward-Prowse has kept his head down and he is performing for his club, who won their opening Championship game against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.
Nonetheless, with the 2023 summer transfer window less than a month away from closing, Sheth provided West Ham fans with this update on their midfield targets.
“Given the big gap between what West Ham are prepared to pay and what Manchester United want (for Scott McTominay),” said Sheth. “We think that West Ham are looking at other options.
“One of those options includes, the Southampton captain, James Ward-Prowse. I am told don’t rule out West Ham going back in for James Ward-Prowse, after having a £30 million bid rejected last month.”
Ward-Prowse is Premier League quality
Unless Southampton put an inflated and stupid price on their captain’s head, then if you are a Premier League team, you should be doing everything to get Ward-Prowse’s signature.
In 2022, the ‘gifted’ England international was being tipped to join Liverpool by BBC Sport’s Gareth Crooks, but of course, they have their attention on his teammate, Romeo Lavia, now.
The most important thing here is that Ward-Prowse suits what Moyes looks for and wants in a midfield player, more than Lucas Paqueta, who is thriving now, but needed a lot of time to settle in.
