Jobi McAnuff says Wilfried Gnonto isn’t going about the right way in trying to secure a rumoured transfer from Leeds United to Everton.
The 19-year-old suffered relegation with Leeds United last season and then proceeded to start their opening day draw against Cardiff City at Elland Road.
But since then, there have been suggestions that Wilfried Gnonto has, not only refused to play for Daniel Farke’s side, but has now handed in a transfer request at the Yorkshire club.
Sean Dyche’s Everton, who have lost their opening two Premier League games and not scored a goal, have expressed interest in the player and are keen to bring him in.
The Toffees have already signed Jack Harrison from Leeds, he has joined on a loan deal, which could be made permanent next summer.
But whilst all those players get their moves, Gnonto isn’t, as EFL expert and former player McAnuff thinks he is being ‘badly advised’.
On any other person being breach of contract if they didn’t turn up for work: “The simple answer is that he is a sellable asset,” said McAnuff.
“With Gnonto, it’s a different situation. We have all been in a similar situation where there is interest from another club, maybe Premier League. He is now sitting here in the Championship. He feels this is his only way to force through a move.
“For me, it’s not the right way to do it. You get your head down. He was one of the real shining lights in what was a difficult season, and certainly, one Leeds fans felt could really help with that push to get them back in.
“I think he is badly advised, I really do.”
Everton need Gnonto’s quality
Whilst Everton should have scored a few goals during their opening-day defeat to Fulham, they were beyond abject against Aston Villa over the weekend.
The Toffees need more spark, pace and added quality in the final third. Someone like Gnonto brings that in abundance.
Plus, if they can get the Italy international signed up, then you have someone who, if need be, is a sellable asset down the line.
