Danny Murphy says he has been told that Dominik Szoboszlai is now ‘top of the charts’ in training at Liverpool following the departure of James Milner.

Even though he is 37 by age, the now-Brighton player trains like he is still that youthful teenager that came through the ranks at Leeds United all those years ago.

With James Milner out of the door at Liverpool, according to Murphy, it’s Dominik Szoboszlai that is now doing the talking when it comes to any fitness-related tests, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The 22-year-old joined Liverpool this summer from RB Leipzig and he made his Anfield debut during his side’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth at the weekend.

He did win a questionable penalty in the first half, although, the Reds will point towards a straight red that was shown to another home debutant, Alexis Mac Allister.

Nonetheless, Murphy says Szoboszlai was ‘outstanding’ during that game, as he shared an insight into what he is like behind-the-scenes.

“I think he (Klopp) has learnt that he has got a superstar in the team and he has made a brilliant signing in Szoboszlai, who was outstanding (against Bournemouth),” said Murphy.

“I was talking to someone last week at the club and apparently he is top of the charts, now that Milner has gone, and taken up all the fitness records.

“You see the athleticism. He is a quality footballer, with great technique. But the athleticism, power and fitness levels. He is exactly the type of footballer Klopp loves.”

Do Liverpool need to add more quality in midfield?

That’s five midfielders that have left this summer, yet only three have entered the club’s doors on Merseyside.

Wataru Endo has been the latest figure to sign, although, it has been suggested that the Reds could target the Bundesliga again, as well as a struggling Manchester City player.

Bayern Munich star Ryan Gravenberch is one of those names, with reports that positive talks have been held, but could Kalvin Phillips be on his way out of the Etihad? talkSPORT claim that he is on Liverpool’s radar.
