Season 4 of Sex Education is almost here and fans of the series have had their say on the hotly contested Maeve vs Ruby debate.
Since Sex Education first arrived on Netflix in 2019, Otis Milburn has had a number of potential love interests and with season 4 now on the horizon, two of those would-be romances – Maeve Wiley or Ruby Matthews – are set to be put back under the spotlight with fans unable to decide who Otis is better off with – but a fan poll has settled the long-running debate.
Maeve
Otis and Maeve have had a long-standing will-they-won’t-they relationship ever since season 1 when the pair first formed the Moordale sex clinic.
The pair had come close to making the leap from being friends and business partners to a romantic couple but several obstacles – such as a deleted voice message – have gotten in the way.
In season 3, Otis and Maeve finally admitted their feelings for one another and the pair shared the kiss that most fans have wanted to see since they first met.
But once again, fate would intervene as Maeve embarked on an exciting new chapter at the end of season 3 as she accepted an offer to study in America.

Ruby
Ruby Matthews proved to be an unexpected love interest for Otis throughout season 3 after the pair first slept together following a drunken party in season 2.
But despite being a popular mean girl and leader of the Untouchables clique, fans quickly warmed to Ruby as she and Otis spent more and more time together, eventually progressing from secretive casual sex into boyfriend and girlfriend.
Their relationship hit a sizable stumbling block when Ruby told Otis that she loved him after he met her ill father and he revealed that he didn’t feel the same way.

Sex Education fans decide Maeve vs Ruby debate with poll
In the days after Sex Education season 3 arrived on Netflix in September 2021 – yes, it really has been two years since the last season – France’s Netflix account posted a poll to Twitter (or should that be X now?) where they asked fans whether they preferred Maeve or Ruby as a potential partner for Otis.
More than 120,000 fans voted In the poll with Maeve winning the vote by a surprisingly slender 52.6% to 47.4% over Ruby.
It’s clear that because Maeve and Otis have been hinted as a couple since way back in season 1, the majority of fans want to see the pair become a couple when Sex Education finally ends.
However, despite only becoming romantically involved with Otis in seasons 2 and 3, Ruby has quickly become a popular choice among a large section of the fanbase as she’s let the mean girl façade slip on occasion as more has been revealed about her home life and true personality.
Whether Otis ends up with Maeve, Ruby or neither of them, we can be sure that season 4 of Sex Education will be packed with plenty of twists and turns.
