Episode 10 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 ended on an agonizing cliffhanger which has left some fans asking if an episode 11 is on its way.
*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 episode 10* — Season 2 of Strange New Worlds has proven to be one of the strongest outings the Star Trek franchise has seen in years – although Picard season 3 certainly comes close, complete with a fun-filled crossover with the animated Lower Decks series and even a surprise musical episode. But following the cliffhanger of episode 10, what’s coming next for the crew of the USS Enterprise?
Episode 10 recap and cliffhanger explained
Titled Hegemony, episode 10 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was certainly an action-packed one as the Gorn, now more terrifying than ever, ambushed the USS Cayuga at Parnassus Beta.
The Enterprise is quickly on hand to assist but its crew finds themselves in a complicated position as their communications and transporters are being jammed any act of aggression could spark an all-out war with the Gorn.
Pike leads a small team, made up of Ortegas, La’an, M’Benga, and Sam Kirk, down to the surface where they discover Batel and a handful of survivors including a young Montgomery ‘Scotty’ Scott, who has botched together a cloaking device to hide them from the Gorn. But when they go to retrieve the device, Pike makes the alarming discovery that Batel has been infected with Gorn eggs.
Meanwhile, Uhura, Pelia and Spock work to turn what’s left of the Cayuga into a makeshift weapon to destroy the Gorn jammer, allowing them to beam Pike, Scotty and the egg-carrying Batel back aboard the Enterprise – just before all hell breaks loose.
The crew finds themselves facing four Gorn vessels, the humans that were stranded on the planet below, including some of Pike’s crew, have been taken hostage by the reptilian aliens and Admiral April is ordering the Enterprise to withdraw.
All of this leaves Pike with an impossible choice; flee and let his crew members die or mount a daring rescue and risk provoking a war with the Gorn.
Will there be an episode 11 in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2?
No, tragically after that jaw-dropping cliffhanger, there will not be an eleventh episode in season 2.
That’s because the season consisted of just 10 episodes in total – something that veteran fans of Strange New Worlds shouldn’t be too surprised about as season 1 had the same number of chapters.
Following the premiere of season 2 back on June 15, episodes have been airing weekly until the tenth and final chapter exploded onto our screens on August 10.
Is Strange New Worlds renewed for season 3?
Yes, Star Trek fans can rest assured in the knowledge that Strange New Worlds will be returning for a third installment.
The news of the show’s renewal was announced in March 2023, before season 2 had even aired.
However, it could be some time before season 3 beams its way onto Paramount+ as filming on the series has been halted due to the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes.
