Country star Dolly Parton is the latest to fall prey to rumors that claim she was “found dead in the bathroom,” and concerned fans want to know if she is alive and well in 2023.
Dolly Parton adds to the long list of celebrities targeted by unpopular websites and YouTube channels that falsely kill a famous person for the sake of clout. This isn’t the same as the harmless TikTok trend from last year that saw people pull pranks about celebrities dropping dead, as the audience was informed about the joke. The rumor about Dolly not being alive, however, only intends to spread misinformation.
Internet hoax claims Dolly Parton was ‘found dead’
The unverified claims about Dolly being “found dead in the bathroom” are bogus and trace back to a YouTube video that was first posted last year and another false post on Facebook.
The misleading video is titled: “30 minutes ago famous singer Dolly Parton was found dead in the bathroom after suffering a stroke”
And, a post going around on Facebook claims Dolly passed away on August 3 at 11 a.m. ET. “She will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting and liking this page,” it reads.
However, there is no evidence presented in the video or the social media post to back the claims up and it’s safe to say the singer is doing alive.
Singer had talked about dying on stage
At 77, the country legend has no plans of stepping down from her career and she wishes she rather took her last breath on stage in the middle of a performance.
In one of her most recent appearances on Greatest Hits Radio, the singer came up with an unexpected response when asked about her retirement.
Dolly said: “Why not make the most of it? And I’m not one to sit around doing nothing” before adding: “I would never retire, I’ll just hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song onstage someday and hopefully one I’ve written.”
She’s been singing for more than six decades and intends to do it as long as she is “able to work”, and her health and husband are “good.”
Report false claims on social media
Most social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and X provide users the option to report any post by just clicking on the hamburger icon or other signs either on the top or bottom.
Once reported, the platform will review the post and take it down if it violates the community guidelines. This also prevents misinformation from spreading further.
