As well as the gargantuan return of a certain Jedi in its final moments, episode 4 of Ahsoka also includes a Kanan Jarrus cameo you almost certainly missed.

*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Ahsoka episode 4 and Star Wars Rebels* — In recent years, Star Wars projects such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi, have grown incredibly fond of including huge cameos to wow fans and the latest Disney+ series, Ahsoka, is no different. But while episode 4 prompted discussion around one particular returning character, the episode features another surprise appearance that has flown in under the radar.

Ahsoka episode 4 features a surprise Kanan Jarrus cameo

As the Ahsoka series is effectively a continuation of Star Wars Rebels, the show has featured numerous parallels with the original animated series.

But while most of these elements are fairly obvious, such as the return of Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren and the cantankerous droid, Chopper, episode 4 featured another Rebels cameo that is much harder to spot.

In a blink-and-you-’ll-miss-it moment at the timestamp, 10:32, fans are shown a brief glimpse of the Ghost’s cockpit, and displayed next to the central dial in front of the pilot’s seat is a picture of Kanan Jarrus.

Kanan was a key member of the Ghost crew, the love interest of Hera (and father of Jacen Syndulla) and a Jedi mentor to the missing Ezra Bridger.

What happened to Kanan Jarrus in Star Wars Rebels?

The reason why we’ve not seen Kanan Jarrus in Ahsoka, beyond this photo and his appearance on Sabine’s mural on Lothal, is because he died in season 4, episode 10 of Star Wars Rebels as he sacrificed himself to save Hera and the other members of the Ghost crew.

The episode in question began with Hera in Imperial captivity and saw Kanan, Ezra and Sabine attempt to break her out.

Kanan succeeded in rescuing Hera and planned to rendezvous with Ezra and Sabine at the Imperial fuel depot on Lothal.

However, as Ezra and Sabine loaded Hera onto their stolen gunship, the pursuing Imperials fired upon the fuel pod they were using as a makeshift landing pad, causing it to rupture.

Kanan used the Force to protect his friends and get them to safety, allowing himself to be engulfed in the explosion, becoming a true Jedi Knight in the process.

Episode 4’s other big cameo

Of course, aside from the split-second appearance of Kanan Jarrus’s picture, the big cameo appearance in episode 4 came from Hayden Christensen as he reprised the role of Anakin Skywalker.

In the final moments of the episode, after losing a duel against Baylan Skoll, Ahsoka wakes to find herself in the mysterious World Between Worlds.

As she becomes aware of her surroundings, she realizes that she’s not alone and standing behind her is her friend and former Master, bringing about the first live-action meeting of Anakin and Ahsoka after they were introduced to each other in The Clone Wars animated series.

However, while it’s a joyous moment to see Anakin again, there are question marks surrounding his reappearance and whether he can be trusted. That’s because the Darth Vader theme plays just as the credits roll, suggesting that this version of Anakin may be linked to the dark side of the Force.
