What is the Blue ‘Mushroom Cat’ Smurf on TikTok?

The ‘Blue Smurf Cat’ shows an image of a creature that looks like a mix of a smurf, a cat, and a mushroom. The picture has become a huge meme on social media.

On TikTok, the hashtag #smurfcat has over 600 million views, with the Russian hashtag #шайлушай currently reaching more than 400 million views.

Online, the creature’s appearance is usually shown paired with a dance/electric song named “The Spectre” by Alan Walker – cropped with a particular section of the song with the following lyrics:

“We live. We Love. We Lie.”

Origin of the realistic image explained

The creature was created by Nate Hallinan, a concept artist and matte painter who began his career in 2007.

They started working with video games as 3D modeler and texture artist, but naturally ended up in concept design due to a life long love for drawing, as per Puralsight reports.

In 2014, the artist supposedly wondered what Smurfs would look like if they were actually real and therefore created the blue smurf cat.

More recently, the little blue cat smurf has become known as Shailushai or шайлушай and has taken over TikTok.

More examples of concept art by Nate Hallinan can be found on the official website NateHallinan.com.

A TikTok creator named @noahglencarter explained more about the smurf cat becoming a viral sensation, stating that music artist Alan Walker has even achnowleegd the trend and shared examples of fan mail they have recieved that relates to the meme.
