Death Note is considered to be one of the most successful anime that people all over the world have seen. While the show ends with the death of Light Yagami, some fans are convinced that Death Parade hints at what happened to him.

Death Note manga came out in 2003 and fans were introduced to shinigami like Ryuk and the protagonist Light Yagami. Three years later, the popularity of the manga led to an anime being developed, and unsurprisingly, it too managed to invite a large audience. The storyline, which centered on the theme of death, revolved around a notebook that had the power to kill anyone whose name was listed on it. With the story ending in Light’s death, we get to see Light’s cameo in another anime called Death Parade and it stirs a major theory about the anime.

Light Yagami makes a cameo in Death Parade

Just like Death Note, Death Parade too believes in the idea that there is no heaven or hell. The show instead focuses on arbiters who are in the position of power to decide the fate of people after they have died, that is, if a person would be reincarnated or their soul would be lost in the void.

In Season 1, Episode 11, Light makes a cameo in the show. While his name is not stated in the anime, one would notice that the facial features of the character are the same as the protagonist of Death Note. To add to this, his occupation has been listed as ‘murderer.’ Given that Light ends up killing several people, we believe the description fits the details.

At the moment, it is unclear why Light would make an appearance in the anime, but it is quite possible that it proves the narrative that a heaven or hell does not exist. Given that Light dies at the end of the manga, Death Parade hints that his soul was transferred to be judged by an arbiter.

Death Note’s manga and anime had two different endings

In the anime, Light gets shot a couple of times but manages to escape when Teru Mikami commits suicide. He eventually collapses on the stairs and Ryuk ends up writing his name on the Death Note.

Meanwhile, in the manga, Teru doesn’t die. Instead, we see Light having a breakdown when he realizes that his end is near. His emotions are too evident as one can see fear, panic, and stress taking over him. In the end, the always calm and strategic Light is seen as a weak individual who is losing his mind.

His life comes to an end after Ryuk writes his name in the Death Note. In the end, Light eventually dies while begging to be saved.

Where to watch Death Parade

Death Parade can be streamed on Crunchyroll or Hulu. As of now, there is only one season of the anime.

The 12-episode show was released in 2015, and as of now, the likelihood of a second season seems dim. It is important to note that, unlike Death Note, Death Parade is based on a short film by Tachikawa, which means, there is a possibility that there may not be enough content for another season.
