Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella now faces an exile from the first team and may not play for the Blues again, according to a report.
The London Evening Standard has claimed that Chelsea may not use Marc Cucurella again after a potential move to Manchester United in the final days of the summer transfer window collapsed.
Marc Cucurella may not play for Chelsea again
Manchester United reportedly wanted to sign Cucurella from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
However, the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners brought in Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham Hotspur instead.
Cucurella was linked with Newcastle United as well, but no move materialised.
The £175,000-a-week (Spotrac) Spain international left-back is still at Chelsea.
According to The London Evening Standard, the former Brighton and Hove Albion defender “faces exile”.
Marc Cucurella situation at Chelsea complicated
Marc Cucurella joined Chelsea from Premier League rivals Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window.
Chelsea paid Brighton over £60 million for Cucurella (Sky Sports).
The 25-year-old made 21 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Blues last season.
The left-back gave two assists in those games.
Cucurella also made four starts and four substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League for the Blues last season.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino may not have any plans for the left-back this season, but getting rid of the Spaniard would not be easy.
The left-back is under contract at Chelsea until the summer of 2028.
No club is going to pay the £60 million that the Blues coughed up for him.
Chelsea would have to sell Cucurella at a loss.
And there is no guarantee that the left-back would want to leave anyway.
After all, the defender has a long-term contract at Chelsea and could decide not to budge from the club even if he does not play.
