Darren Ambrose thinks Cristian Romero has taken his game up a level under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.
Amid Tottenham’s struggles during this past year, one thing that can’t be argued about is the quality at Cristian Romero’s feet.
The World Cup winner, who was signed when Nuno Espirito Santo was in charge, is perhaps one of a very few players who could hold his head up high.
But with Micky van de Ven coming in this summer, Ambrose thinks that Cristian Romero has become a ‘different player’, as he told talkSPORT.
All the talk has been about Spurs’ attack and their much-changed style of play, which has been incredible to watch for the supporters.
But what is perhaps going under the radar is their defence, with only eight goals conceded from the Premier League table-toppers.
Romero and van de Ven
“Romero seems a different player,” said Ambrose.
“He has got a partner with him that is on a level with him, he trusts him and they have got that partnership built up, with Udogie on the left and Porro on the right.”
Romero a key player for Spurs
If Postecoglou is to win a trophy at Spurs or get the club back into the Champions League, then Romero is going to be key.
In previous years, he has had Eric Dier, or others, partner him at the back.
But it could be argued that they haven’t been at the level of the Argentine defender.
That’s not the case now with van de Ven next to him because, so far, they have made an outstanding start together.
