Kevin Campbell has suggested that the ‘improving’ Fabio Vieira has now pushed ahead of Emile Smith Rowe under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.
The former striker can see positive strides in Fabio Vieira’s game, but doesn’t see it with Arsenal’s Hale-End star.
These past 18 months have been frustrating for Emile Smith Rowe, who has only started one game because of injuries and lack of form at the Emirates.
Kevin Campbell pointed out that Arsenal’s summer signing from 2022 has come in and ‘made a difference, whereas Emile Smith Rowe hasn’t, as he told The Highbury Squad.
It could even be argued that if Mikel Arteta had a choice between the two, then he would pick Fabio Vieira, as of this moment.
That’s why it’s paramount that, when Emile Smith Rowe gets his next chance, he takes it with both hands because Arsenal are running away from him.

“He has done alright,” said Campbell. “He hasn’t been fantastic, but he has done alright. The problem is that the Vieira of last season, to the Vieira of this season, is improving. ESR (Emile Smith Rowe) is (stagnating).
“My point is that Vieira has come on and made a difference in certain games. ESR hasn’t. That’s the difference.
“It doesn’t matter what you did two years ago, it ain’t going to help you this season. ESR needs to do it this season. The levels have, all of a sudden, changed. We are bringing in the likes of Declan Rice, and Havertz, whether people like him or not, we are bringing in the likes of Timber.
“All of a sudden, the levels have gone up again. I want ESR to score and put himself up in the frame. I love him. I think he is a wonderful player. But if he isn’t doing it, then this game is so ruthless.”

When the £34 million signing joined last summer (Sky Sports), he struggled to settle in and put in performances to lift the Arsenal crowd.
Even though the team in itself was doing well, Fabio Vieira wasn’t and fans were questioning the call to bring him in.
But in games against Fulham and Manchester United this season, he has made an impact from the bench and proving that he is growing as a player under Arteta.
