From Tottenham Hotspur to Newcastle United, it has been some career for Kieran Trippier.
The 33-year-old started off in Manchester City’s academy, prior to them being famous, before he impressed and made a name for himself under Sean Dyche at Burnley.
That road led him to Tottenham, who were transforming under Mauricio Pochettino, as he helped the club to the Champions League final, including winning cap after cap for England, before being sold to Atletico Madrid in 2019.
Kieran Trippier won the La Liga title during his time in Spain and now he is hoping to guide a Newcastle United side that has made huge strides since he joined them in 2022.
Forget about Kyle Walker, a recent Treble winner with Manchester City, Achraf Hakimi of PSG or Napoli’s underrated fullback, Giovanni Di Lorenzo.
It’s Kieran Trippier who Don Hutchison thinks is ‘the best in the world’ right now, as he told ESPN.
Best right-back in the world
“Best right-back in world football, Trippier,” said Hutchison when picking his Team of the Season so far, which included James Maddison, Destiny Udogie and Micky van de Ven.
Underrated Kieran Trippier
Up until Pedro Porro’s arrival in January and Emerson Royal’s recent improvements, Spurs were struggling on that right side.
They hadn’t properly replaced Trippier once he left, as his reliability was very much needed.
And now Newcastle fans are reaping the rewards for a player who has actually improved since moving to St James’ Park, even though, on paper, many would be thinking that he is coming towards the back end of his career.
